        Lois Virginia Overstreet Dooley, 82, of Bedford went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born Thursday, May 26, 1927 in Bedford County a daughter of the late David Crockett Overstreet and Mary Virginia Ruff.

  • Lena S. Wilkes, 87, Bedford

        Lena Sculthorpe Wilkes, 87, of Bedford died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at her residence.  She was born in Brunswick County on Nov. 17, 1922 a daughter of the late Edwin Samuel Sculthorpe and Annie Lee Bowers Sculthorpe. 

        In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Wilkes. 

        They were owners and operators of Wilkes Store.

  • Emily P. Hogan-Rupel, 25, Bedford

        Emily Pearl Hogan-Rupel, 25 of Bedford, passed away Jan. 5, 2010.  A daughter of Monty Ray Hogan and the Late Mary McCoy Hogan.

        In addition to her father she is surviverd by her husband John Drollinger Rupel III. 

        A celebration of her life was conducted on Saturday Jan. 9 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.

  • Vina A. Dooley

        Our blessed mother, Vina Alice Dooley, nee Overstreet, was called home to meet her Lord on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009.

        Born Dec. 28, 1913, she was the third of 11 children born to Julian and Rose Overstreet, in Bedford, Va.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Letcher R. Dooley; and two grandsons, Raymond W. Saul and Albert L. Hayes.

  • Roy S. Croft, Jr., 83, Bedford

        Roy Samuel Croft, Jr., 83, of Bedford, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 in Bedford Memorial Hospital.  Born Feb. 18, 1926 in Bedford County, a son of the late Mabel Croft and Roy Samuel Croft, Sr. 

        Roy served in the U.S. Navy and was a retiree of Rubatex Corp. 

        In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by two brothers, Hal Croft and Mack Croft and two sisters, Joe Milton and Jane Arthur.

  • Richard S. ‘Dick’ Skelley, 60, Roanoke

        Richard Saunders (Dick) Skelley, 60, of Roanoke, died on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, the result of a seizure. He graduated from Cave Spring High School and attended Augusta Military Academy after which he joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in the Vietnam War. Upon return, he worked in home construction. For the last several years, he was employed by Virginia Western Community College in maintenance.

        Jerry Gordon, 63 of Bedford, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at his home. A son of the late Roy Lee Gordon and the late Thelma Rice Gordon.

        Surviving are his wife, Mary Christine Carter Gordon, sons, Jerry N. Gordon Jr. and Terry W. Gordon, daughter, Robin Lynn Hayslett.

        A graveside service was conducted on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Memorial Park at Holy Land USA.

        Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.

  • Landon L. Johnson, 100, Huddleston

        Landon L. Johnson, 100 of Huddleston passed away Jan 7, 2010.  A son of the late Ollie Johnson and the late Vertie Leftwich Johnson. 

        Surviving are his sons, Larry W. Johnson, Glenn D. Johnson and Terry L. Johnson, daughter-in-law Ramona C. Johnson. 

        A funeral service was conducted Saturday Jan. 9, 2010, from the Updike Funeral Home Chapel in Huddleston, interment followed in the Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Scott Co., on April 20, 1934, a daughter of the late Denver Wilson and Almeda Elizabeth Johnson Wilson. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde M. Bondurant; and two brothers, Richard Wilson and (Infant) Denver Wilson, Jr.
