  • Charges move forward in Goode Store robbery

        A Bedford man charged with the armed robbery of Goode Country Store last March, was also a suspect in the February robbery of the Apple Market in Bedford, testimony during a preliminary hearing Monday revealed.

        Though Jason Anthony Jackson was never charged in the Bedford robbery, that investigation did lead to him being charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. That charge was certified to the January grand jury during Monday’s hearing.

  • Bob Terry continues recovery

        Bob Terry sat quietly to the right of Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown as he made the announcement: An arrest had been made in the Oct. 1 attack that had left the 81-year-old beloved community member and store owner with severe head and face injuries.

        He’s out of the hospital now; and there’s a smile on Terry’s face. And though he still has trouble talking, that smile was more than evident as well-wishers made their way up to him after Tuesday’s announcement of the arrest.

  • Six-point buck ‘sought’ in Bedford Hardware break-in

        Bedford Hardware suffered a break-in early on the morning before Thanksgiving. Bedford City Police arrived in time to find the suspect — a six-point buck — still in the store. The suspect escaped and was last seen running into the ally on the other side of South Bridge Street.

        The 16-year-old Bedford County girl reported missing last Monday morning was found safe two days later in Kentucky.

        She was located with the former Bedford County Sheriff’s Deputy recently charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor.

  • Man sentenced for molesting toddler

    Calling the sentencing guidelines “totally inadequate,” Bedford County Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Krantz argued for a significantly higher prison sentence for a 21-year-old Roanoke man who sexually assaulted a 2 1/2-year-old girl in May 2009 while living in Bedford.

  • Murder charge certified in Huddleston shooting

        It was supposed to be a fistfight, but it turned into a shootout that left one woman dead and another man charged with first degree murder in her death.

        On Monday, that murder charge against Michael Thomas Loboschefski of Huddleston was certified to circuit court following a preliminary hearing before Judge Harold Black in general district court. Black also certified charges of malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony against Loboschefski.

  • Police believe missing girl might be with accused former sheriff's deputy

    Special Agents from the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) are looking for a missing 16-year-old Bedford County girl. It's believed she might be with the former Bedford County Sheriff's Deputy recently charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor.

    According to State Police, Audrey Marie McCombs' parents reported her missing Monday morning. They had last seen her at her Bedford County residence at 9 p.m. Sunday night.

  • Felony maiming charges certified to grand jury

        The 41-year-old Bedford woman charged with injuring two people as a result of a May 28 accident on Peaks Road had two felony counts of DUI maiming certified to the grand jury following a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Bedford County General District Court.

  • SHERIFF'S DEPUTY ARRESTED

        Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown spent much of Monday meeting with principals at county schools that have school resource officers from his department in them.

        The meetings were a result of last week’s arrest of an SRO officer, who now stands charged with 12 counts of taking indecent liberties of a minor by a custodian.
