Former Staunton River High School teacher and football coach Richard Isaac Witt was sentenced Tuesday to four years in jail for his convictions of 10 misdemeanor counts of having sexual contact with a minor.

    Bedford County Circuit Court Judge James Updike handed down a 10-year jail sentence, with all but four of those years suspended, during a hearing in which both victims of Witt's crimes, along with their mothers, testified about the impact Witt's actions had on them and their families.

    The investigator with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, arrested in Campbell County early Sunday morning, March 27, has lost his job with the department.

    Friday afternoon Sheriff Mike Brown said, following an internal investigation, Joshua Hubbard, 30, had been terminated from employment with the BCSO.

On March 17, an individual passed a fraudulent traveler’s check at a local CVS pharmacy. This person is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall in his late 20s with short hair. He was wearing a light colored shirt and blue jeans. There may have been another individual with this subject that stayed outside.

Suspects may have left in a burgundy or maroon four-door vehicle similar to a Nissan or Infinity.

After a three day trial that concluded Thursday, a Bedford County jury found Cecilia Burnette, 26, of Bedford, not guilty of second degree murder. The jury, however, found her guilty of felony child abuse and recommended a sentence of eight years in prison.
