  • 50 years: Jailhouse calls lead to longer sentence

        Charles Wesley Olmstead just couldn’t help himself.
        And it cost him—it cost him a lot.
        Facing up to 50 years on computer solicitation charges, Olmstead, 39, made calls for phone sex to two different minor age girls—from jail.

  • Motorcyclist fled deputies in Campbell Co.; wrecked in Bedford

    Robert Morgan, 36, of Forest, was taken into custody by a Campbell County deputy, late Monday afternoon, after his motorcycle hit a tree in the Sonic parking lot on Independence Boulevard in Bedford.

        According to Lt. Todd Foreman, of the Bedford Town Police Department, a Campbell County deputy had been pursuing a man on a motorcycle, but broke off pursuit. Shortly after, Bedford County deputies in an unmarked car spotted a man on a motorcycle, near Wal-Mart, who matched the description of the person the Campbell County deputy had been chasing.

  • Robbery suspect sought

    An armed man robbed the Spirit Market in Bedford Monday night and police continue to look for the suspect.

  • Thieves targeting storage units

    >Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators are investigating numerous burglaries of storage units that have occurred since January 2014.

    Suspect(s) are gaining entry into a single unit and are then able to access adjoining units. After gaining entrance, suspect(s) are stealing various items (jewelry, silverware, dinnerware, etc.). Storage units located in Moneta, Thaxton, New London and Forest have all been victimized.

  • Harris case goes to federal court

        A US Naval pilot, stationed at Oceana Naval Air Station, in the Virginia Beach area, had a court date in Bedford County Tuesday.

        His charges here were dropped, on a motion filed in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Wes Nance, because the case is now being pursued through the federal court system.

  • BCSO IDs hiker who died

        Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators have identified the hiker found dead at the Matt Creek Shelter Monday morning as Rodney Montgomery, 59, of Otis Orchard, Wash.

        Investigators contacted one of Montgomery’s brothers in Washington state late yesterday. The brother said that he had two brothers hiking together on the Appalachian Trial.  Investigators contacted the second brother, by cell phone, and learned he was in Troutville.

  • Husband, wife crime team enter guilty pleas

        Two 19-year-old married teens entered guilty pleas to multiple felony counts in Bedford County Circuit Court Tuesday morning.

        The couple were among 50 people arrested last year following an investigation by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
        Leigha Bragg Hall entered guilty pleas for breaking and entering, grand larceny, credit card theft and credit card fraud.

  • Thaxton man to serve 8 years on child porn charges

        A Thaxton man will spend eight years in prison, following a contested sentencing hearing last week in Bedford County Circuit Court.

        Judge James Updike sentenced David Wayne Seabolt, 58, to 18 years in prison, with 10 years suspended on his10 felony convictions of possessing, 1st count and 10 felony convictions, subsequent offense.

  • Scam alert! Listing targets renters

    Steve Rush a real estate agent with Scott and Bond Inc., in Bedford, wants area residents to be warned of a scam targeting those seeking to rent a home.
        For the second time since this past summer, an individual has used real estate listings with the company to try and defraud people through Craigslist.

  • Meth labs are becoming a problem in Bedford County

        Last Monday, a call about a possible burglary led to the discovery of an alleged meth lab by investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
