  • Man faces charges for soliciting 14-year-old girl

        A 26-year-old man, accused of soliciting a 14-year-old girl, has been indicted on the charges by a Bedford County grand jury.

        Angelo E. Paderes Sr., who is listed with a Bedford address on court records but was arrested in Georgia, is facing four counts of computer solicitation and one count of carnal knowledge. He was indicted on all of those counts by the grand jury.

  • Salem man pleads to porn charges

    A Salem man pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of child pornography, receiving a five-year prison sentence.
        William McKinley Hollie, 49, entered the pleas last Friday, Aug. 5, as part of a deal with the prosecution.

  • Cousin of Lloyd Welch speaks out about murder case

        Patricia Ann Welch, the cousin of the man charged in the 1975 killings of  two Maryland girls, wants people in this area to know what she believes about the case:

        • Her parents Richard Welch and Patricia Jean Welch were not involved; and
        • She believes her cousin, Lloyd Lee Welch Jr., is the person who abducted and murdered Sheila Lyon, 12, and her sister Katherine Lyon, 10, more than 40 years ago.

  • Ruff pleads to rape charge

        A former Bedford resident pleaded guilty to one count of rape Tuesday morning in Bedford County Circuit Court.
        Roger Alfred Ruff, 71, faced three counts of the rape of a juvenile under the age of 13, but under the plea agreement two of the charges were not prosecuted. A sentencing hearing has been set for Oct. 14.

  • US 460 crash claims life of Brookneal woman

    Virginia State Police Senior Trooper G. D. Musgove is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 8:33 a.m., February 2, 2017 on US 460, just east of Owens Market in Bedford County.

  • BCSO looks into thefts in Lake Vista area

        Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Lake Vista area of Bedford County.
        The larcenies occurred late Thursday night or early morning hours of Friday. All the thefts were from unlocked vehicles. Items missing are wallets, personal items, a .270 rifle and credit cards.

  • Bedford PD search for missing man with dementia

    The Town of Bedford Police Department is asking for the public’s help finding an 80-year-old with dementia.

    Alan Carter was last seen in the Hillcrest Drive area of Bedford at approximately 8:30pm on 09/28/2016. He was wearing jeans and a long sleeve maroon shirt.

    Carter is driving a gold 2005 Ford Ranger Extended cab with Virginia license plate JVS-3779.

    Carter wears glasses and has a thin mustache.

  • Riddle to spend six years in prison for DUI crash

        A 20-year-old Lynchburg man will spend six years in prison as the result of an accident last October which  led to the death of a passenger in the car he was driving and severely injured another passenger.

  • Charges for eluding police, shooting gun, go to grand jury

        Charges against a Bedford County man, for firing a firearm while being pursued by law enforcement, have been certified to a Bedford grand jury following the man’s decision to waive his right to a preliminary hearing in General District Court.

  • Noell found guilty of charges related to break-in

        A former employee of Sonic in Bedford, arrested for breaking into the fast-food restaurant Feb. 1, has been found guilty on the charges related to the break-in.

        Cedric Choe Noell, 30, is also facing charges of embezzlement from the restaurant. Noell was in Circuit Court on the charges related to the break in last Tuesday.
