  • Vandals destroy election signs

        “We just lost our fourth election sign,” said Ann Duncan, chairman of the Bedford City Democratic Committee. Duncan spoke in a phone interview Thursday about vandalism to the previous signs.
        The signs were on private property. Three of them, one being a replacement for a previously vandalized sign, were along U. S. 460 and a fourth was along Independence Boulevard in Bedford. These were four-by-four-foot signs that Duncan said cost $13 each.

  • Scam suspect caught

        The man believed to have scammed residents from the Midwest to Bedford County is no longer on the run.

        But last week, the BCSO reported Foster had been picked up by the U.S. Marshall’s Service in Nashville, Tenn.

  • Murder charge certified

        Multiple charges against Charles Edward Glover, 43, of Goodview, were certified to the October grand jury following a preliminary hearing held Monday in General District Court.

        Glover is accused of killing Reginald Perry Bowles outside his Jeters Chapel Road residence in April. He’s also accused of setting fire to Bowles’ residence and a nearby garage.
        Glover also faces trial in November for allegedly breaking into his mother-in-law’s residence and abducting his wife.

  • Another school employee arrest

        A second employee in a year at Liberty High School has been charged with sexual misconduct with a student.

        The arrest also represents the fourth employee in Bedford County Public Schools arrested in connection with inappropriate contact with a student since last October.
        Last Thursday, Sept. 13 Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators were contacted by the Bedford County Department of Social Services and were advised that a 15-year-old student at LHS had made allegations of sexual misconduct.

  • Vandals steal fish fry signs

        Otterville United Methodist Church holds a fish fry twice each year, something that it’s been doing for the last 40 years. Its second fish fry of 2012 will be held this Saturday, Sept. 15 and is still on schedule despite the absence of the usual signs that advertise the event.

  • Watching out for businesses

        The Bedford Police Department has implemented a new Business Watch group to help reduce and prevent crimes in area businesses.
        The goal is to help business owners and merchants identify what they can do to create a safer, more secure environment for their business.
        According to Lt. Todd Foreman with the BPD, by working together businesses can reduce, resolve or avoid some problems altogether. He said the possibility of identifying and arresting criminals increases as more people become involved.

  • Forest man to serve 15 years for child porn convictions

        A Forest man will spend 15 years in prison for possessing and reproducing child pornography.
        Gregory Winston Robertson, 44, was sentenced on 25 felony counts—15 possession of child pornography and 10 counts of reproducing it—during a hearing in Bedford County Circuit Court last Tuesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

  • Man sought in connection with alleged local scam

    It’s believed that Larry Foster has carved a path of scams from Indiana all the way to Bedford County.

        The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Foster, having taken out warrants for his arrest on construction fraud and obtaining money under false pretenses.
        Foster is being sought in connection with numerous complaints from citizens to the BCSO of a possible water filtration system scam.

        A 48-year-old Florida man will spend 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl, the result of a plea agreement reached in Bedford County Circuit Court Friday.
