  • Lynch Station man charged with soliciting minor to produce child porn

    On August 4, 2017, Investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (SOVA-ICAC) began investigating a case involving the solicitation of Child Pornography.

  • Chesapeake man charged with coming to Bedford to solicit a minor to produce child pornography

    On August 1, 2017, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for an unknown adult male found inside of a Bedford County residence. The male had exited the home prior to arrival of Deputies and Investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (SOVA-ICAC), according to a report from the Bedford Countyo Sheriff's Office.

  • Johnson caught in Florida after being arrested

        Kasey Wayne Johnson is no longer on the run.
        Johnson, who escaped the custody of the Bedford Police Department Aug. 2, was arrested last Saturday in Florida.
         Johnson, a 6’1 160 lb. white male born in 1997 and resident of the town of Bedford, was taken into custody in Bay County, Florida.  When he was taken into custody he was charged with a larceny in Florida and held on fugitive charges from Virginia.

  • Talking toilets

        Toilets at Liberty High School’s (LHS) new baseball field were a major part of a presentation on the Liberty Middle School construction project.
        The project includes building a competition gym for the high school and the new gym is displacing the high school’s baseball field. A new high school baseball field is being built on a portion of the land purchased for the middle school.

  • Police still looking for suspect

        Bedford Police continue to search for a suspect who fled from custody last Wednesday, after being allowed to step outside to smoke a cigarette.

        Last Wednesday, August 2, Kasey Wayne Johnson, a 6’1, 160 lb. white male, born in 1997 and resident of the town of Bedford, was at the police department in reference to larceny of a vehicle.

  • More charges filed in dog shooting case

        A Goodview man who allegedly shot a neighbor’s dog after it had bitten his grandson— which led to him being charged with reckless handling of a firearm—has now also been charged with cruelty of an animal.
        In addition, further investigation led to charges against the owner of the dog.

  • Sixth person charged in thefts

        On Tuesday July 18, Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Donald H. Beverly for possession of stolen property.
        According to a report from the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Beverly was found in possession of a Caterpillar Skid Steer that was reported stolen on June 22. Beverly, 39, of Rock Cliff Road was transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center and released on bond.

  • Five arrested in string of arrests

        Authorities have arrested five people in connection with a string of thefts in the Stewartsville and Moneta areas.
        On Monday July 24, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained arrest warrants for three men and two women. The warrants were the result of the ongoing investigation of thefts that occurred between the middle of June and middle of July.
        According to Major Ricky Gardner, the thefts included a string of larcenies involving equipment, lawnmowers and trailers in that area.

  • Fatal persuit: Goodview man in court

    HILLSVILLE – A Bedford County man facing charges related to the crash that killed a Carroll County deputy has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors and his two felony charges will go to a grand jury.

        Joseph Alan Lambert, 21, of Goodview, was being pursued by Carroll County authorities on the night of March 9. Deputy Curtis Bartlett was on his way to join the pursuit for Lambert, answering fellow deputies’ calls for help, when his patrol vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer. He died at the scene.
