  • Garrett speaks at Take Your Legislator To School week

        Delegate Scott Garrett spoke to Jefferson Forest High School’s government class, Friday, as part of Take Your Legislator to School week.

        Garrett began talking about Friday night’s football game, got them laughing, and then pointed out how this technique allowed him to get an audience’s attention and build rapport in eight seconds. He was then able to hold their attention through his presentation, tossing in humor and asking the students’ questions.

  • Interactive haunted house promises unique approach

        Liberty High School theater students are preparing what they call an interactive haunted house. Actually, according to Shayna Crews, the high school’s theater teacher, it’s more like interactive theater.  People from the audience become part of the story.

        “There will be spooky things   happening   here,”Crews promised.

  • Credit Union, school team up at JFHS

        Students at Jefferson Forest High School can take care of some basic financial transactions at the school’s new student-run Credit Union branch at the school cafeteria.

  • School board votes on Body Camp redistricting

        Instead of uprooting more than 70 current students at Stewartsville Elementary, as part of the redistricting plan to move Body Camp Elementary students to a new school next year when that school closes, the Bedford County School Board opted for a less intrusive option.

        Bedford County Public Schools has released a proposed redistricting plan for elementary schools in the Liberty attendance zone, should the school board decide to close Thaxton Elementary, as has been proposed.

  • TB case hits Thaxton

        An individual affiliated with Thaxton Elementary School has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) and the school system has been working with the Health Department to address the matter.
        The division was notified by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) at about 3:30 p.m. Friday following positive laboratory test results. A joint letter from Bedford County Public Schools and the Department of Health was sent to all parents at Thaxton Elementary on Monday providing additional details.

  • Graffiti threat leads to lockdown at JFHS

    Bedford County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers are investigating a threatening message found on a restroom wall at Jefferson Forest High School Monday around 1:50 p.m.

  • Individual affiliated with Thaxton Elementary diagnosed with TB

    An individual affiliated with Thaxton Elementary School has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB).

    The division was notified by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday following positive laboratory test results. A joint letter from Bedford County Public Schools and the Department of Health will be sent to all parents at Thaxton Elementary on Monday, October 13 that provides additional details regarding this situation.

    Bedford County Public Schools has released a proposed redistricting plan for students in the Staunton River attendance zone affected by the closing of Body Camp Elementary for the 2015-2016 school year.
