    Three Bedford County teachers have been named as finalists for the school system’s Teacher of the Year award.

    The award will be announced at a dinner on June 7.
    The three teachers include Kristen Cunningham of Staunton River High School, Kristina Karnes from Staunton River Middle School and David Webb from Jefferson Forest High School.

    Insurance was a major topic last week as the Bedford County School Board held its last budget work session, prior to formal budget adoption slated for its meeting this Thursday, May 3.
    Expect the county’s school bus drivers to be well-represented at this week’s meeting.

The Bedford County School Board chose Dr. John Hicks, last week, to fill the District 3 School Board seat left vacant by Brad Whorley’s resignation.

    A total of five people applied for the position and the School Board held the candidate interviews in open session.

    Members of Virginia Tech’s EcoCAR 2 team paid a visit to Bedford Middle School and Liberty High School (LHS) earlier this month. EcoCAR 2 is a college engineering competition that challenges college students to modify a production GM car to make it more energy efficient. Each competition takes two years and consists of a design phase and a building phase. Tech, was the national winner last year and will be defending its title at the end of next year.
