Fallout from the video and lawsuit surrounding the actions of a Bedford County Public Schools special education bus driver and aide continued this week.

The Virginia Department of Education informed Bedford County Public Schools Thursday that the department will conduct a review of the division’s training procedures for special education bus drivers and bus aides.

    Viola Henry is retired, but still spends plenty of time working with children. Henry heads the N.E.E.D. project, something she did when she was a teacher at Thaxton Elementary School and she now continues to do.

    Last Monday, just before noon, Henry and her students baked cookies. They used the sun to do the work.
    Henry’s students had already learned about the solar ovens. They in turn, taught their fellow Thaxton Elementary students.

    Monty Coleman, assistant fire chief with the Forest Volunteer Fire Department, believes the events of Sept. 11, 2001, should be remembered more than they are.

    “In my eyes, it’s a shame we don’t remember it every single day,” Coleman said Friday.
    That’s why he was more than willing to attend Forest Elementary School’s 9/11 Commemoration assembly held at the school last week.

    Julie Bennington, who represents District 5 on the Bedford County School Board, is seeking her second term. She was first appointed to the board in the spring of 2007 to replace Bill Wiese, who left the area to take a new job in North Carolina, and won a full term in the regular election that fall.
