        Bedford County Public Schools has released a proposed redistricting plan for elementary schools in the Liberty attendance zone, should the school board decide to close Thaxton Elementary, as has been proposed.

        An individual affiliated with Thaxton Elementary School has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) and the school system has been working with the Health Department to address the matter.
        The division was notified by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) at about 3:30 p.m. Friday following positive laboratory test results. A joint letter from Bedford County Public Schools and the Department of Health was sent to all parents at Thaxton Elementary on Monday providing additional details.

    Bedford County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers are investigating a threatening message found on a restroom wall at Jefferson Forest High School Monday around 1:50 p.m.

    An individual affiliated with Thaxton Elementary School has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB).

    The division was notified by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday following positive laboratory test results. A joint letter from Bedford County Public Schools and the Department of Health will be sent to all parents at Thaxton Elementary on Monday, October 13 that provides additional details regarding this situation.

    Bedford County Public Schools has released a proposed redistricting plan for students in the Staunton River attendance zone affected by the closing of Body Camp Elementary for the 2015-2016 school year.

        An attempt to get the Bedford County School Board to revisit plans to close Body Camp Elementary School—and possibly Thaxton Elementary—failed due to lack of support during Thursday night’s meeting.

  • Student Advisory Council gives input to school board

        Bedford County Public Schools has a student advisory council composed of student representatives of all three high schools and all three middle schools.

        The group’s purpose is to relay the concerns of students to the school board. The advisory council meets several times during the year and makes a presentation at a school board meeting at the end of the year.
        The students on the 2014-2015 council made their presentation at Thursday night’s school board meeting.

  • School budget goes to the county

        The Bedford County School Board had few changes to make in Superintendent Dr. Douglas Schuch’s proposed $106.5 million budget for 2015-2016.
        Now comes the difficult part—selling the budget to the County Board of Supervisors.
        Dr. Schuch, Board Chairman Gary Hostutler and Chief Financial Officer Randy Hagler will try to do just that during a work session Monday night with the supervisors.
