    On Saturday, Jefferson Forest High School Principal Tony Francis had advice for the graduating Class of 2012: life lessons are learned differently than school lessons.
    “In school, you learn and then you are tested,” Francis said. “In life, often you are tested and then you learn.”

    The phrase “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is truly being taken to heart by some environmentally conscious students in Bedford County.
    Huddleston Elementary School, which has partnered with the New Jersey-based company TerraCycle, has been recognized by the organization for the effectiveness of its recycling initiatives.

    The Bedford County School Board found $1.5 million in cuts to balance its budget last week.
    The board held a four-hour work session Thursday to consider the budget cuts which were needed after the Bedford County Board of Supervisors cut its increase in local funding from $4.2 million to $2.5 million. The school board had requested the $3.5 million increase.
    Among the cuts made to help balance the budget:
    • No new buses will be purchased in the upcoming fiscal year;
