County man charged with stabbing wife

A Bedford County man has been charged with stabbing his wife Thursday night.

At 8:22 p.m. Thursday, Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Wheatland Road after receiving a call from a female reporting a domestic dispute at the address.

Reed steps down as president of D-Day Memorial Foundation

On Friday, Sept. 28, the Board of Directors of the National D-Day Memorial Foundation accepted Robin Reed’s resignation as Foundation president.

Reed, who joined the Foundation in June 2010, stated that he would be pursuing other opportunities.

LHS teacher's aide charged with taking indecent liberties with a child

On September 13 Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators were contacted by the Bedford County Department of Social Services and were advised that a student, age 15, at Liberty High School had made allegations of sexual misconduct.

Jefferson Forest High School band director David Webb is usually not at a loss for words. But Thursday morning was a little different.

Surprised by a visit from Bedford County Public Schools officials and School Board members, Webb didn't know what to say after learning he had been named as the Region V Teacher of the Year.

BCSO makes meth arrests

On Friday, Sept. 7, Bedford County Sheriff’s Investigators along with State Police Special Agents received information from a concerned citizen about a possible methamphetamines operation in the Thaxton area of Bedford Country.

Based on complaints, investigators responded to Breezy Ridge Road and made contact with the residents. Based on preliminary investigation, a search warrant was obtained and served at that location in the early morning hours of Sept. 8.

Man arrested for allegedly beating another man with baseball bat

Bedford County deputies arrested Kevin Pillsbury, 42, of Bedford and charged him with the malicious wounding of another man.

According to a release from the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, Timothy Andrews said he was visiting Pillsbury and was asleep on the sofa when Pillsbury started beating him with a baseball bat.

Child drowns at Smith Mountain Lake

At 12:26 p.m. Sunday Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from a Goodview residence reporting a 6-year-old child missing from the home on Smith Mountain Lake.

The caller advised that the child had been missing 15 minutes prior to making the call. Rescue personnel along with law enforcement were dispatched to the scene. At 3:26 p.m. divers located the victim’s body a short distance from the dock where he was last seen.
