        Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 2017.    
        A group of NAACP members and others from Bedford, gathered and marched from the Bedford County Courthouse to Washington Street Baptist Church Monday as part of the annual remembrance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. The procession was led by a group from Bedford County Public School’s ROTC.

        An early morning fire claimed the life of a 4-year-old Bedford girl, Tuesday.

  • Year ends with traffic fatality

        Virginia State Police Trooper M. D.  Mayhew is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Bedford County.
        The crash occurred Dec. 29 at 4:43 p.m., on Route 122 less than a mile south of Route 903.
        Leiben Marie Patrick, 36, of Huddleston, Va., was walking south in the southbound travel lane when she was struck by a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The pickup truck was unable to avoid

  • Poverty is health issue

        The Bedford Community Health Foundation is getting involved in Bridges Out of Poverty, according to Denny Huff, the Health Foundation’s director. Huff said this is part of the Health Foundation’s mission of promoting a healthier Bedford.
        “We consider poverty as one of the basic social indicators of health,” Huff said.

  • Alliance looks for new members

        The Bedford International Alliance is now nearly 20 years old. It grew as the result of a late ‘90s twining arrangement between Bedford and Bedford County and the oceanfront towns in Normandy, near the section of beach designated Omaha for the D-Day amphibious assault. The Alliance exists because of D-Day.

        Brian Buccola, a Goodview resident, carried a passion for emergency medicine one step further earlier this month.

  • Police still seeking missing teen

    Brianna Hederick, a Bedford teen, is still missing and Bedford police are actively looking for her.

        According to Lt. Shannon Walker,  Hederick, who is 16, was last seen in her home at 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. She was reported missing the next day.
        “We have no evidence of foul play,” Walker said.

        It looked like it was going to be a bleak Christmas for three children in the Goodview area, although their mother, Cheyenne Martin, is thankful that her whole family is safe, even though she lost everything.
