A Moneta man died last Wednesday as the result of a fall off of scaffolding while working at the Downtown Moneta project off Va. 122, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

Donald Lee Patrick, 51, died as a result of falling from the scaffolding while working as an employee of Riverview Plumbing at the project, according to Major Ricky Gardner of the BCSO. Gardner said Patrick, who was on his first day at the job , had been working alone when he fell and was discovered by a co-worker. Gardner said Patrick died en route to the hospital.

Two residential development proposals in the Forest area met different fates Monday night.

The supervisors voted 7-1 to deny a request to rezone the Jefferson Ridge Apartments complex from R-2 (medium density residential) to R-3 (medium density multi-family residential). This would allow the developer to build 91 townhouse units and convert the existing townhouse-style apartment units to condominiums for sale. The planning commission voted, last year, to deny the rezoning by a 4-3 vote.

Residents of Cedar Key, a neighborhood on Smith Mountain Lake, are still waiting for a decision on a rezoning request after a tie vote by the Bedford County Board of Supervisors Monday night.

A number of homeowners in the neighborhood want their land rezoned from AP (agricultural preserve) to R-1 (low density residential). The planning commission had voted, earlier this year, to rezone 16 of the 29 parcels and to fix a split zoning problem on three others.

Robyn Barbour had such an experience recently. Her subsequent actions prevented a nightmare for a fellow human.

An employee of the Bedford ABC store, Barbour was gazing out the shop's front window, on a blustery day, along with store manager Pansy Edwards.

Suddenly, she turned to Edwards and stated, "I thought I saw some money fly by." Barbour had seen a bill zip across the parking lot, in the direction of Cato's women's apparel shop.
