Bedford County’s county-wide spelling bee proved that spelling bees are not just for girls. A total of 17 children, one from each elementary school and middle school, competed and three of the final four contestants were boys.
In the end, Henry Armfield, a fifth grader from Forest Elementary School, and Aaron Plattus, a seventh grader from Bedford Middle School, dueled for three rounds before Armfield claimed the championship. Plattus, the county spelling bee runner-up, will serve as the alternate.
