  • Trump is clearly encouraging racism

         Racism and hate have to be taught. No one is born that way. That was the essence of a tweet that could truly be said to have been read around the world.
        It was from our last president, Barack Obama, sorely missed now by all the millions of Americans so horrified and embarrassed by the bad joke that replaced him.

  • Don’t hyperventilate

        Some western leaders have been hyperventilating about Russia’s Zapad 2017 military exercises. These exercises have been going on for some time and some folks have worried about them. The exercises mean “West” and Russia has carried these out as a rehearsal for a defensive operation against an attack from the west.

  • Officials investigate ‘suspicious fire’

        Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday morning (August 19) the Hardy and Stewartsville-Chamblissburg fire companies were dispatched to a reported brush fire in the 1400 block of Gravel Hill Road, in  the  Hardy area of Bedford County.
        When the first units arrived, they determined that this was actually a structure fire, reporting a single-family dwelling with heavy fire showing. Additional fire, EMS and support units from Bedford and Roanoke counties then responded.

  • Lynch Station woman dies in crash

        Virginia State Police Trooper T. C. Fairburn is investigating a fatal crash which occurred on August 21, 2017 at 8:58 a.m. on Route 834, at its intersection with Route 253 in Bedford County.
        A 2008 Saturn Astra was traveling west on Route 834 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
        The driver was identified as Paula Cox Wood, 64, of Lynch Station, VA.   Wood was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene, according to a report from the State Police.

  • Bedford County man faces assault charges

        On Friday evening August 18, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Bedford Magistrate’s Office advising a female was in their office reporting that she had been assaulted.
        A Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy responded and the woman advised that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Brandon Johnson, earlier in the day. She said that Johnson also pointed a shotgun at her and assaulted her with it, according to a report from the BCSO.

  • Man charged with soliciting minor to produce child porn

        On August 1, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for an unknown adult male found inside of a Bedford County residence.

        The male had exited the home prior to arrival of deputies and investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (SOVA-ICAC), according to a report from the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
        The suspect was located by Virginia Conservation Police soon after the call, sitting in a vehicle in a school parking lot.

  • Lynch Station man faces child porn charges

        On August 4 investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (SOVA-ICAC) began investigating a case involving the solicitation of child pornography.

    A 15-year-old child victim living in Bedford County was allegedly solicited online multiple times by a suspect using Facebook Messenger. After multiple search warrants were executed on the electronic service provider, 23-year-old Bobby Matthew Fisher of 2243 Bedford Highway, of his prior convictions.

        Daniel Wayne Brown of Bedford plans to appeal his 10-month sentence for assaulting a police officer and obstructing justice, following his sentencing Friday in Bedford County Circuit Court.
