    The note was a press release on behalf of the ?Innocent Olympic victims,? those athletes who competed (and won) on relay teams that included Marion Jones, during the 2000 Sydney Olympic games.

  • Rev. Jeremiah Wrong

    I can understand why Rick Howell believes that the national news media is obsessed with Jeremiah Wright and that this obsession is absurd. Mr. Howell is a member of the Roanoke City "Democratic" Committee and Barack Obama is the likely "Democratic" presidential nominee.

    He made an apples-and-oranges comparison which contrasted news coverage of the Rev. Wright's connection to Obama with John Hagee's endorsement of John McCain. There is no comparison.

    'Nine for now' update

    For those who read last week's story "Nine for now" I wanted to give an update I received from Mike Poff this week.

    Mike said there is new news.

    "Pam is expecting," the father of seven wrote in an email. "Go figure! Eight will be great and 10 is the end."

  • Woman granted bond in shooting case

    On the day she turned 47 years old Sandra Faye Campbell of Thaxton was granted bond by Bedford County Circuit Court Judge James Updike.

    Campbell had been held without bond prior to last Thursday's hearing since her arrest in connection with the shooting of a Bedford County man in January. Campbell is one of three defendants charged with aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting of Jesse Phillips at Campbell's home off Thaxton School Road.
