This past week, I attended and hosted over 20 events throughout the 5th District. We made stops in Charlottesville, Danville, South Boston, Chase City, Farmville, Hardy, Rocky Mount, Java, Martinsville, Lawrenceville, Kenbridge, and Chatham.
The weak and mediocre state of the Republican presidential field for 2012 has become such a given in recent weeks, I almost feel like I’m picking on them if I write about it….
But, I said almost…Honestly, I’ve observed presidential politics for a long time, since about 1968, and I’ve never seen a field of “contenders” from an out-of-power party – Democratic or Republican – that’s this bad.
Do you remember, back in 2003, when President George W. Bush strode onto the deck on an aircraft carrier with a banner emblazoned with “Mission accomplished” hanging from the carrier’s island? He’s often been ridiculed by the left because of this, and that’s why I laughed when I read Rick Howell’s “The Liberal Agenda” last week.
Thaxton Elementary School’s N.E.E.D. Team has won first place, nationally, for elementary school level N.E.E.D. programs. According to the N.E.E.D. Web site at www.need.org, it all began with joint congressional resolution that established National Energy Education Day 30 years ago. It grew into an effort to bring comprehensive energy education to American classrooms.
