The 10-inch water main that brings treated water from Bedford’s water treatment plant to the city ruptured due to a stress crack fracture, Sunday. According to D. W. Lawhorne, Superintendent of Public Works, the break only affected approximately 20 people who tap directly into that line. Most of the water goes to storage tanks. Lawhorne said that they were able to repair the main before the storage tanks went low.
“We had to replace a five foot section of it,” said Lawhorne.
