  • The height of hypocrisy

It’s been interesting to listen to President Barack Obama calling Russia’s alleged interference in our most recent election a “threat to democracy.”

  • What does Russia have on Trump?

I can’t help but wonder: Are a lot of people who voted for Donald Trump now beginning to figure out just how – here’s the “S” word again – stupid it was to do that?
It could well be, now that we see the almost daily reminders of just how outrageous and regrettable it is that this man will be president. We can now pretty assuredly believe that the Russian regime of Vladimir Putin did everything it could to make him president.

  • Session will feature some 2000 pieces of legislation

The General Assembly is back in session, ready for another year.  A lot has changed since we last met.  November’s elections have not only affected policy in our nation’s capitol, they have already changed the dynamic in Richmond.

  • A lot can be accomplished in 46 days

    By Senator Steve Newman

I am delighted to be back in Richmond to represent you and the rest of my Virginia Senate district.  Once again this year I have the honor of serving as the President pro tempore of the Senate, which means I have the privilege of filling in the Lt. Governor in his absence and helping to lead the Senate.

  • 2017 Session opens

    By Delegate Terry Austin

The 2017 Session of the Virginia General Assembly was called to order on Wednesday, January 12.  The session will run for 46 days, ending on February 25.
It promises to be a busy and fast moving session, full of issues important to the citizens of the 19th District.  It is for that reason that I enter the session with unbridled enthusiasm and energy, fully dedicated to resolving important issues in a way that serves the best interests of our citizens.

  • How we repeal and replace Obamacare

Unaffordable premiums, deductibles through the roof, losing a doctor you’ve had for years, being dropped from the coverage you need – these are just some of the ways Obamacare isn’t working for Virginians. No amount of patches or delays can resuscitate Obamacare from its failures. The calls, letters, and emails I’ve received about what families, seniors, and businesses have experienced only emphasize this fact. That is exactly why Congress is getting to work on the process to repeal and replace this law.

  • A dangerous world

Some folks made a big deal of the fact that Donald Trump sent a tweet, late last month promising to enlarge our nuclear force. Trump did this shortly after Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin commented that Russia should expand it’s nuclear force.
Nobody really knows exactly what Vladimir Vladimirovich meant by his comment. Does he plan to increase the number of warheads he has, or does he have something else in mind.

  • The U.S. shouldn’t pander to Israel

When the United Nations Security Council recently voted to condemn continued and expanded settlements by the hawkish Israeli government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acted as though his country had been hit by nuclear weapons.
In his mind, any criticism of his government’s insistence that it has a right to build settlements in Palestinian lands, automatically means that the person, or country, is “anti-Israel.”
