  • Shame on ‘tea party’ obstructionists

If the current government shutdown doesn’t illustrate the harm that’s going to be done by the rabid strain of “tea party” conservatism in the national GOP, then some people are just choosing not to understand.
To hold hostage the very operations of the government itself in order to insanely pursue a strategy that simply cannot work; well, it’s a choice of madmen. It’s Hitler in the bunker stuff...

  • The President’s healthcare law is not ready for primetime

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

As of late, the conversations I have with my constituents have a consistently clear message: The President’s healthcare law is hurting families and small businesses.  President Obama’s healthcare overhaul is unworkable and it is having a devastating effect on our fragile economy.  That is why I believe we must take responsible action to delay the implementation of the President’s healthcare law.

Go to the head of the class if you correctly answered “none of the above.”

  • Digging out of debt

One look at the national debt clock ticking towards $17 trillion dollars and it is hard for anyone to deny that the federal government has a serious spending and debt problem. As the national debt continues to climb, the need for a real solution to these fiscal problems is clear. However, before we can tackle this debt, Congress must first address one of the greatest drivers of it – entitlement spending.

  • El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Barack de la Obama

In his famous novel, El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, Miguel de Cervantes wrote about a Spanish gentleman who had such an excessive devotion to novels about chivalry that it came to affect his mind.
Concerning this man, Cervantes wrote, “ And thus, with much reading and little sleep, he dried out his brain in such a manner that he came to lose his judgement.”
