  • Stop robbing Peter to pay Paul

    By Curry W Martin
    District 2 Supervisor

I have been a true Republican for 48 years.
I have been an elected official for Bedford County District 2 for 10 months. I have not and will not ever answer to any special interest groups. I was elected by the people of District 2 to represent them.

  • The Good Fight

    By John T. Briscoe
    Thaxton
Member, Republican unit committee of Bedford

It’s never the wrong time to do the right thing.
The recent vote by the Republican unit committee to hold its members who are also elected officials accountable is a perfect example. Although it has been wrongly attributed to the “Tea Party,” that is not true. I authored and submitted the resolution. I am a  member of the Republican unit committee and I stand by its message.

  • Don’t cast your vote for greed

When Americans go to the polls on Tuesday, many may not even realize that they are in a contest with a feature of our country that seems to be getting worse: greed.
There’s a reason that greed is called one of “the seven deadly sins.” But what, precisely, is greed? I shall quote from the Wikipedia listing on the subject:

  • When you can’t win, try name calling

One of the signs that liberals can’t win logical arguments is how they routinely resort to  attributing opposition to President Barack Obama to racism.

  • Get out and vote

hough the statewide elections haven’t generated a lot of excitement in this area, the local town council race in Bedford has been adding to the interest.
In most years, town council elections take place with little fanfare. Many times the number of candidates on the ballot matches exactly the number of seats open. That is the case in the three, four-year term seats being contested—incumbents Robert Wandrei, James Vest and Steve Rush are running for those.

  • Protecting Americans’ health and safety requires more action

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

  • Protecting your health care plan

If you like your health care plan, you can keep it. Right? Well, despite President Obama’s promises that under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, you could keep your health care plan, millions of Americans have discovered that is simply not true.

  • Congress must protect Virginia’s children from Internet gambling

    By Sheriff Mike Brown
    Bedford County

My primary duty as Sheriff of Bedford County is to see that our citizens are protected. This means that I, along with my fellow law enforcement officers, must constantly be on the lookout for emerging threats.

  • The party of ‘no’ wants control

There’s great drama everywhere as mid-term elections come down to the wire. Even “the average voter” may just be paying attention.
The national Republican Party – intimidated by “tea party” fanatics and bitterly opposed to the president – has set its sights on control of the U.S. Senate.

  • Like herding rattlesnakes

So far it seems like one of the few wise foreign policy decisions President Barack Obama has made was the decision to stay out of the conflict in Ukraine, including the decision to not supply heavy weapons to the government in Kiev. As things stand now, a fragile cease fire is still holding and Russian troops are pulling back from the Ukrainian border. There also seems to be progress on an agreement on the resumption of sales of Russian natural gas to Ukraine.
