  • Comey’s testimony was extraordinary

If he didn’t show anything else during his Senate testimony, fired FBI Director James Comey demonstrated the integrity that Donald Trump so utterly and obviously lacks.
That was among the reactions Americans felt as literally millions watched last Thursday’s hearing from beginning to end. At the very least, they were left with an impression of a president who went to some lengths to charm the FBI Director who “he hoped” would end an investigation he didn’t want.

  • Tuesday is primary day in Virginia!

Virginians know how our state holds a governor’s election the year after the presidential contests, and we take for granted that it will be watched everywhere. This year is no less true!
On Tuesday, June 13, citizens of the Old Dominion who don’t like to miss elections will go to the polls and choose either a Democratic or Republican ballot. Problem is, those “who don’t like to miss elections” are smaller than they’ve ever been, and it’s a serious problem for our democracy.

  • May we never forget

    By James F. Burns

A tear welled up in Hal’s eye, a deep sadness etched across his face as he recalled the moment.  Omaha Beach, the day after the D-Day invasion.  Hal had been tasked by his company commander to go back down onto the beach and retrieve some equipment.  A farm boy from Iowa now deep into his 60s, he shared this memory with me, his words below.

  • Samson, the Philistines are upon you!

She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him. (Judges 16:20 NSAB)

  • A check-up from the neck up

    By Art Cournoyer

Spring is here and lots of outdoor activities are suddenly competing for our time.  Grass and other landscaping needs attention, outdoor living areas need all that pollen cleaned off, and the dock and boats need to be de-winterized and readied for all the fun times with family and friends that summer weather allows.

  • Poor baby; he’s so ‘unfairly treated’

The appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Prosecutor over the Trump/Russia investigation certainly got the attention of the beleaguered president.
It didn’t take long before he was feeling sorry for himself, and saying that he was being “unfairly treated,” which was actually a familiar refrain from the campaign. He’d often complain of his “treatment” for one reason or another.

  • Rebuild our Navy

The cruise missile attack on a Syrian airbase early last month was amazing. In a precision attack, the base was hit by 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles in 60 seconds. According to a Wikipedia article, 60 missiles were launched, but one fizzled and fell in the sea.
Syria was able to resume launching air strikes from the base but the advance warning we gave the Russians, so they could get their personnel out of the way, also allowed the Syrians to shield some of their aircraft, reducing the damage that was done.

  • For many, it’s Watergate all over again

Last week, Donald Trump did his best impression of Richard Nixon yet, firing the respected FBI Director who just happened to be investigating him, and then “explaining” it about five or six different ways.
Yes, the Greek tragedy that operates out of the Oval Office – thanks to “angry whites” – took on possibly historic new dimensions with the latest crazed antics of this bizarre regime.
