  • Conservative zealots fighting history books

        Name just one.
I’m wondering if anyone out there could inform us all of even a single program of decent, humane reform that has ever been brought to America by conservatives?
The question arises because of recent movements in several states, most notably Oklahoma, where right-wingers are even going to court to fight modern standards in public school history books.

  • We let them get away with it

Last week I mentioned my concern that President Barack Obama’s executive overreach, aided and abetted by the “Democratic” Party, poses a threat to our republic. The Man Who Would Be King, and his political party, aren’t the only problem. The folks in Congress who have been bought and paid for by some special interest are also a serious problem.

  • Working with Israel to prevent a nuclear Iran

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

Last Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint meeting of Congress.  It was a great honor to have Prime Minister Netanyahu come to the United States and speak to both Houses of Congress.

  • Standing with Israel

The United States and Israel share a strong bond. Since Israel declared its independence in 1948, the U.S. has developed a positive relationship with Israel based on shared democratic values and common security interests. Israel has proven to be a valuable American ally since.

  • BOS wrapping up the budget

Greetings to all, and a happy upcoming spring.

  • Sorry, Bibi; no war with Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brought his case against Iran, and its apparent plans for a nuclear weapon, to the Congress last week, in a speech sponsored by America’s new foreign policy chief, John Boehner.
Actually, Boehner, the Speaker of the House, has no authority whatsoever in foreign policy, but he acted like it when he invited “Bibi,” as he is known, without informing the White House in any way.

  • The form of a republic without the substance

As regular readers of this column know, I always put democrat and democratic in quotes when I’m referring to a particular political party. That’s because I’m convinced the modern “Democratic” Party is anything but democratic. This party has become dominated by its extreme left wing and has increasingly authoritarian leanings.

  • The Federal Reserve must be transparent and accountable

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

The Federal Reserve System supervises nearly all banking in the United States and plays a substantial role in the domestic and global economies. Since its creation in 1913, the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors has expanded its power, and its role in monetary policy has gone relatively unchecked. Given the impact that its policies can have on our economy, the Federal Reserve must be transparent and its leaders must be held accountable to the American people.

  • ISIS in America

With increasing regularity, Americans are bearing witness to the depravity of terrorists claiming the mantle of “The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” or ISIS, but also sometimes referred to as ISIL.  Relatively unknown to many in America just a few years ago, ISIS relishes in their own barbarity with videos depicting the murders of prisoners. As we have seen recently in Denmark, France, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany, these terrorists are intent on destroying our way of life.

  • Session ends early

    By Del. Terry Austin
    19th District

Last week, the General Assembly wrapped up the 2015 session.  We adjourned early for the first time in 15 years, adopted a balanced budget, and offered positive solutions to issues important to Virginians.
