  • Be careful when you cut

It appears that there is a push from both extremes of the political spectrum to cut the defense budget.

  • Working to repeal, defund and dismantle the new health care law

Friday, March 23rd marks the two year anniversary of President Obama signing into law the disastrous government takeover of our health care system. Two years ago, as Congressional Democrats pushed the so-called health care reform through Congress, they assured the American people that health care costs would go down and that individuals would be able to keep their current health insurance if they liked it. Nothing could be further from the truth.

  • Demonizing health care reform

The justices of the U.S. Supreme Court have taken up the issue of health care reform, specifically President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
The constitutionality of the law, especially the “individual mandate” that requires everyone to buy health insurance, will be decided. The court has been hearing arguments since Monday.

  • The real atrocity

I was wondering how long it would be before Rick Howell would write about the mass murder allegedly carried out by an American soldier in Afghanistan. His Liberal Agenda column in last week’s paper did not disappoint me. It was everything I expected it to be, right down to his drawing a parallel between this crime and the My Lai massacre in Vietnam.

  • Two years later: The president’s health care law

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

As I continue meeting and talking with citizens across the 5th District, it remains clear that too many are suffering not only from the President’s economic policies, but also from the budget-busting policies put forth in the government takeover of health care that was signed into law nearly two years ago today.

  • Fighting the government takeover of health care

I have fought President Obama and the Democrats’ health care law since its earliest stages. I spoke out in strong opposition to the bill when the Democrats passed it against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the American people and one of my first acts of the 112th Congress was to co-sponsor and vote to repeal this monstrosity in its entirety. At every turn I have worked to repeal and defund this government takeover of our health care system including strongly supporting numerous bills that would repeal some of the most egregious provisions of the law.

  • A glaring U.S. atrocity in Afghanistan

The lead of a March 17 Associated Press story summed things up very aptly: “Afghan President Hamid Karzai say’s he’s at ‘the end of the rope,’ and a majority of Americans feel the same way.”
The story, of course, was about Army staff sergeant Robert Bales and a U.S. atrocity in Afghanistan. Bales is believed to be the soldier who walked into a village and shot 16 people to death, nine of them children. It’s been reported that some of the bodies were set on fire.

  • Poison gas, anyone?

Senator John McCain wants to bomb Syria. In a speech he gave a couple of weeks ago, Senator McCain called for the United States to lead an international effort to carry out piloted air strikes on Syrian government forces.
