  • GOP panic over Trump growing

I’m increasingly subscribing to the theory that –  with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign so horrifying the GOP – it reflects the Biblical injunction of reaping what you sow.
Yes, Republicans can only blame themselves for what is now being called “Trumpism,” a race-baiting, fear-based appeal that, as I said before, counts on our worst instincts for support.

  • Roast Turkey?

An item that circulated on Facebook shortly before Thanksgiving shows a photo of President Barack Obama talking on a phone with text reading “What will you have for Thanksgiving dinner?” Below that is a photo of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, also talking on a phone with text that reads “Turkey.”

  • Too many guns, and no shame

Wednesday, Dec. 2, was just another beautiful day in the Gun Massacre Capital of the World.
Yep, one more gun massacre. By count, it was the 355th such shooting of the year, which, at the time made for an average of slightly more than one per day.
But you know what? Too many Americans just really aren’t all that concerned about it. Our gun-worship culture has now developed a ritual of reaction every time there’s another mass shooting.

  • The day that will forever live in infamy

    By   James F. Burns

I miss a man I never met.  Howard Keniston.  He had two sons.  He lost two sons.  On the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941—a day that shall indeed “forever live in infamy.”

  • Bolsheviks

I often refer to the left wing of the “Democratic” Party as its Bolshevik wing and Rick Howell’s Liberal Agenda in last week’s Bedford Bulletin gave a good illustration as to why I do that. By the way, Mr. Howell does a great job of articulating the positions of his party’s left wing. I always urge people to read it and then consider whether they really want to vote for the candidates who these folks like.

  • Trump’s supporters should be ashamed

There have been two separate stories lately in the New York Times and the Boston Globe about the “near panic” that’s said to be gripping the national GOP over Donald Trump.
Party leaders – the establishment, if you will – are very worried about the possibility that Trump could actually be the nominee. They know that would be political suicide, handing the Democrats the White House again without even a serious fight.

  • National security is our greatest responsibility

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

Last Friday, the nation of France – America’s first and enduring ally – suffered a devastating attack, and our hearts and prayers remain with her people in this time of mourning. We stand with them, resolute against these forces of evil that seek to destroy peace and prosperity in America and across the globe.
