    Simple gun
    control

I own a lever action 22 cal. rifle and a 12 ga. pump shot gun. That said, I cannot support the
    NRA and its concerns.
How do you make an assault rifle into a hunting rifle? With a six shot clip. The numbers of persons impacted by these shooter incidents, are directly related to the large capacity clips used to inflict maxim harm. All clips should have to be permanently modified to a limit of six rounds.

    Rezoning is
    necessary

Bedford County schools are finally considering the idea of rezoning the county schools. This is not a popular idea in all areas of the county, but it is necessary from both a financial and school capacity perspective.

    Bedford/Franklin
    counties
    welcome Amtrak

This Halloween, a special “treat” is in store for Southwest Virginia with the launch of passenger train service to and from Roanoke.  As elected representatives of Bedford and Franklin counties, we enthusiastically welcome this important development.
Traveling by train is gaining in popularity in the U.S. During the last fiscal year, 31.6 million passengers used Amtrak, an all-time record, according to a recent article in Smarter Travel.

    Unsung heroes

Behind the scenes of an event such as Bedford Get Together (October 14) are many unsung heroes.

    Edgar Tuck

We’ve known Edgar Tuck for a number of years and wholeheartedly believe he will make an excellent addition to the county Board of Supervisors as the District 2 representative.

    Here’s one you missed

A few days ago, I saw a snippet of a story on television.
A former Marine who lost both legs in an I.E.D. ambush somewhere in Iraq or Afghanistan was asked about Colin Kapernick’s stunt(s) at these NFL football games.  He strapped on his two prostheses, and gently but firmly lowered himself, without assistance, to the floor.  Then he looked up at the reporter and cameraman and said, “That’s called taking a knee.” He said nothing else.

    Supports Sylvester

I’m writing to express my support for Fred Sylvester who is running for the District 2 seat of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors.

    Fred IS For Bedford

Fred Sylvester is running for Bedford County Supervisor in District 2.  I suspect that all Bedford County residents agree that we need to increase and improve the levels of service in certain areas such as schools, police, fire and rescue, broadband access and more.  But, we are all concerned about increasing taxes.

    Do something
    positive

It is always amusing when someone who has no children attempts to advise parents on how to raise their offspring. It is equally ludicrous when someone outside the faith assumes the position of advisor to Christians by telling them what they and their churches should do in response to racism.
On the Opinion page of the Bedford Bulletin, last week, a regular columnist appeared to think that his perception of Christians was more important than reality.

    DAR Ready for Centerfest

Members of the Peaks of Otter Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution have had a busy summer developing and completing several projects.  The sale of these items will fund the things we do to help our Bedford community.  We are pleased to announce the following that will be available for purchase at Centerfest in downtown Bedford on September 23, 2017.
