    Doing nothing has
    consequences

The Bedford Bulletins editorial of July 2 on immigration reform stated,”in fact, the only reason Congress won’t take action on immigration reform now is because of the flood of illegal immigrants coming across the border right now-most of them children...the leadership was ready to act.”

    Clearing up the
    confusion

Thank you for supporting Bower Center for the Arts and the Wharton Society by attending Dr. Bower’s Annual Crawfish Boil. As always, the food, music and ambiance were outstanding. Unfortunately, there was some confusion and misunderstanding at this year’s Crawfish Boil, which we want to clear up.

    The future of
    agriculture

I write this out of deep concern for Bedford County’s agricultural future.
Our family owns a 594 acre farm in the Big Island area; this land has been in our family and farmed for more than 150 years. We love Bedford County, its beauty and its rich history. Zoning regulations should not be changed in order to allow these industrial farming operations to move into the county.

    Reflections of a Virginia
    country boy

How much longer will Senators Kaine and Warner and fellow Congressmen allow the gross over reach of the President and his Executive Departments?

    Where were the local bands?

I am so proud to be a part of the wonderful Bedford Community.   The celebration and honors for our veterans this past week was awe  inspiring.  I can’t say enough about the staff and volunteers at the D-Day Memorial.  They  do a fabulous job year around, but they outdid themselves last week.

    Rush to judgment

The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce (“the Chamber”) is concerned by the rush to judgment on the possible closure of two elementary schools in the county. We urge that no decision be made until completing a careful evaluation of all relevant factors, as further discussed below.

    Supporting
    traditional
    marriage

On May 13, 2014, I, along with hundreds of others, traveled to Richmond to stand in support of traditional marriage.  Why does someone close to sixty years of age take a day off from work and travel over two and a half hours on a beautiful spring day? If not me, then who?

    Thank you

Thank you to all the responders to our home on May 16 to rescue my husband and son from our pond; all dispatchers, Dept. of Game and Wildlife, Fire and Rescue squad and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department. We are very grateful to all.

    The Rosko Family

    Huge success

    Letting their voice be heard

With all that is being said in the media today about public education and bullying, can you explain to me why we tolerate public officials using their position to be a bully?

    Disappointed by decision

Several months ago a representative from the D Day 70th Anniversary Committee went to every high school in the Bedford District requesting that the marching bands participate in the parade.  At that time no one--and I repeat--no one indicated that there would be any problem.
