    Source of
    comfort

As a new resident in Bedford County, I have taken note of the significant number of young people that have lost their lives in auto accidents. As a parent that has lost a child, I would like to share a source of comfort, especially during this time of year. (My youngest son was an Iraq War veteran - a victim of PTSD)

    Fighting for freedom

I look at the pictures of those tempest-tossed, huddled masses crowding onto the teeming shores of Europe. Many look like young men of fighting age.
I read about the illegal immigrants, again, many of whom are men of fighting age, who come across our southern border. And I consider other options.

    Stupid people?

I am not a bit amused to be called stupid for voting for Donald Trump.

    A good hire

I was reading this week’s newspaper, and on the front page was a story about a policeman named Chevon Thompson.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at the YMCA about a month ago. He was working out in the weight room. And I said to myself, man that’s a big fellow. After watching him for a little while working out, I finally asked him which football team he played for.

    An outstanding performance

On Saturday, Oct. 29 my wife Bev  and I attended the fall concert of the Bedford Community Orchestra at Bedford Middle School..What an OUTSTANDING 2 + hours of musical entertainment.!!!  The 13 selections the orchestra performed ranged from a salute to Rogers &Hammerstein, sound tracks by John Williams, music from Apollo 13, Star Trek & much more.

    Are you glad...

Are you glad we have the 13th Amendment?  Thank a Republican!  This amendment abolished slavery with 100% Republican support and only 23% Democrats support.
What about the 14th Amendment?  Once again the Republicans made it happen with 94% support whereas the Democrats were 100% against it. This amendment provided citizenship and equal rights for all.

    Supports Johannessen for Council

Bruce Johannessen is not a politician.
        Bruce Johannessen is:
        • A gentleman
        • Intelligent, thoughtful and a great listener
        • A dedicated volunteer and involved with myriad civic activities, including the Bower Center for the Arts, The Bedford Public Library, The Elks Lodge, and Emory & Henry College
        • Reflective, fair and balanced

Support for Johannessen for Town Council

While I am somewhat biased in my opinion, I want to express my support for Bruce Johannessen in his campaign for a seat on Bedford Town Council.
In addition to a distinguished career with the VA Employment Commission where he worked for economic development Bruce has been active in our community through a leadership role in the local Elks and a long tenure on the Bedford Town Planning Board and officer on the Friends of the Library board.

    The facts

What did you think of  the rebuttal to my editorial?  Maybe my editorial will become a hatchet and cut Mike Brown’s lying tongue out.
For example, the writer states that I don’t appreciate law enforcement or know or care about the facts, also that the state police don’t know how to work an accident involving “hydroplaning.” All his above statements are false. He and Mike Brown write alike-lie-lie-lie. I wonder if he helped write that letter.

    Supports Garrett

Tom Garrett is the only candidate who will preserve my 2nd Amendment rights.
As a concerned female citizen who travels frequently, I rely strongly on my right to carry a firearm for protection.
