    Voicing their
    resistance

In Bedford County this past weekend, dozens of people gathered to voice their resistance to what is happening to this country under its current leadership.

    Thank you

On behalf of the Bower Center for the Arts, I would like to thank the community of Bedford for attending and supporting the 8th Annual Crawfish Festival held on Saturday, May 27, 2017.  Over 400 people attended the Festival, which is the lead fundraising event for the Center. You won’t be disappointed

I strongly urge everyone to kick off the summer season at Smith Mountain Lake with two premier performances: Lakeside Singers and the brand new Lake Pops, both sponsored by Smith Mountain Arts Council. You will not be disappointed!

    Faith, family and freedom

Having choices through elections is an American standard; preferring one choice does not necessarily mean that we are adamantly or rudely opposed to another.  It simply means that we prefer one for specific reasons and we make that choice.

    Setting the
    example

In September I went to the funeral for the police officer in Shelby, North Carolina. I am an uncle of officer Tim Brackeen’s wife. At first I hesitated to go as I expected that the crowd and the traffic would be tremendous. After hearing that a few family members from the Roanoke Valley decided not to go, I made a last minute decision to go to support my sister and my niece.

    Time to TNR

There’s been great progress at the Bedford County Animal Shelter in recent years that is a tribute to the staff, area animal welfare groups, and residents.
The number of animals going in has gone down, and the number of animals going out alive has gone up.
