    Supports Sylvester

I’m writing to express my support for Fred Sylvester who is running for the District 2 seat of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors.

    Fred IS For Bedford

Fred Sylvester is running for Bedford County Supervisor in District 2.  I suspect that all Bedford County residents agree that we need to increase and improve the levels of service in certain areas such as schools, police, fire and rescue, broadband access and more.  But, we are all concerned about increasing taxes.

    Do something
    positive

It is always amusing when someone who has no children attempts to advise parents on how to raise their offspring. It is equally ludicrous when someone outside the faith assumes the position of advisor to Christians by telling them what they and their churches should do in response to racism.
On the Opinion page of the Bedford Bulletin, last week, a regular columnist appeared to think that his perception of Christians was more important than reality.

    DAR Ready for Centerfest

Members of the Peaks of Otter Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution have had a busy summer developing and completing several projects.  The sale of these items will fund the things we do to help our Bedford community.  We are pleased to announce the following that will be available for purchase at Centerfest in downtown Bedford on September 23, 2017.

    Taken care of

I want to thank The Bedford Life Saving Crew for a job well done on August 8, 2017, for getting me to Bedford Centra Hospital and I want to thank all the staff on 3 a.m. shift in The Emergency Room for the quick efficiency work they did for me.
I don’t believe I would be here today if it wasn’t for each and everyone of them and the good Lord pulling me thru my sickness.
I want to thank all the staff in the I.C. unit on my stay afterward.

    Uphold American ideals

During World War II, 416,800 American soldiers died defeating our enemies arrayed around the world. This included the Nazi forces of Germany, the Fascists of Italy, and the militaristic expansionists of Japan.

    Give an hour a week

As the new school year begins, I’d like to make our community aware of a wonderfully meaningful experience that has been in our area for several years: The Big Brothers Big Sisters Site-Based Mentor Program.
It is designed to pair a caring adult with a child in need of extra support.  They meet once weekly at school for about an hour during the child’s lunch/recess time.

    Be careful out there

There seems to be an up-tick in the number and severity of incidents around the lake over the past several weeks.
Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue reports:
        * We have had two drownings at the lake this year.
        * Two 14 year old children were very seriously injured while operating jet skis in Hatcher Creek. The skis collided with each other at speed resulting in the injuries.

    Outlaw this
    practice

Regarding your editorial on civil forfeiture (7-26-2017), if the judges sitting on what are supposedly the “we the people’s” courts had any intestinal fortitude and morals, civil forfeiture would not exist.

    A rush job

Understanding Health Care, which I don’t fully, or nearly fully or mostly at all.
One might assume, politicians would have invited representatives from some of the 58 countries that DO have universal health care, to make suggestions for the framing our countries Health Care program. Or, the same politicians might have held town hall meetings BEFORE the ink was wet, to secure constituents input in prioritizing the programs elements most important to them.
