    Home Tour loses a friend

It is with great sadness that we and other members of the Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour management board learned about the recent passing of local resident David Lowry, a dear friend and supporter of the Home Tour.

    Christians
    and guns

Recently Mr. Rick Howell wrote  about Christians and guns that deserves a thoughtful response.

    Straight Outa Bedford?

Straight Outa Bedford? Are we that dangerous a place?
I guess the newly elected Supervisor Tommy Scott is trying to make a name for himself, calling for the county to allow permitted county workers to carry concealed handguns at work. Not a good idea.

    A return to
    Southern Civility

When Robin and I chose Bedford as our final home, she was returning to her hereditary roots and we both were getting a small town like where we grew up.

    True religious fanaticism

I’m compelled to highlight the counter-factuals and self-contradicting irony in Rick Howell’s November 25 column “The Bloody Results of Religious Fanaticism.”
Howell conjectured that the “instigator” of the recent attack on innocents in Paris “violated the real teachings” of Islam. Evidently, only Grand-Imam Howell’s interpretation of the Qur’an and Hadith understands the attacks thus.

    Source of
    comfort

As a new resident in Bedford County, I have taken note of the significant number of young people that have lost their lives in auto accidents. As a parent that has lost a child, I would like to share a source of comfort, especially during this time of year. (My youngest son was an Iraq War veteran - a victim of PTSD)
Compassionate Friends is an international support group for parents and families after a child dies.

    Disappointed

I have never been so shocked - and disappointed,  like a punch in the gut - since I’ve lived on Smith Mountain Lake as I have been during this recent election cycle.
The Republican Party of Bedford located its Election Headquarters  at the Lake – next door to the Huddleston Post Office - for the very first time this year and we experienced three instances of theft and vandalism.
