    Counting our blessings at BCM

Today was a day for counting our blessings at Bedford Christian Ministries.
With the winds howling outside and winter returning this week, some of the volunteers at BCM were sorting and storing the latest donation of food.  While these 1200 lbs. of food came from the food drive recently conducted by the Bedford Walmart, we have been receiving both food and cash donations from many and varied sources in the Bedford community.

Recently Mr. Rick Howell wrote  about Christians and guns that deserves a thoughtful response.

    More info needed

I just read in my free Thanksgiving edition of the Bedford Bulletin that Liberty High School has hired a new varsity basketball coach. The seven paragraph article relates the new coach’s experience, his intuitive reaction after meeting with the Principal and another coach, and his outlook for the upcoming season.

  • National HealthCare Decision Day

April 16 is National Healthcare Decision Day, a national health observance designed to emphasize the importance of planning for health emergencies and end-of-life care.
According to a news release from Centra Health, National Healthcare Decision Day “encourages the public to make their wishes and expectations about medical care and end-of-life care known to loved ones and then to solidify these wishes in an advance directive.”

    Why stay?

What should convince teachers it’s worth it to stay in Bedford?
The educators in Bedford County, both teachers and paraprofessionals, have had no meaningful, measurable increase in salary in almost a decade, but our work-load and daily demands have increased immeasurably. After 13 years of service, how am I to convince myself that it will improve in Bedford?

    Change sounds good

School Board Member Richard Downey had us all holding our breath as to his position on the closure of Thaxton Elementary School.

    Pay raise

There is still a 31.5 percent pay raise sitting in the county budget for the Bedford County Board of Supervisors.

    Supporting law enforcement

        2015?
We are one race, the human race. The way we think separates and divides us. The demonization of law enforcement that is seemingly becoming more pervasive in our nation should not be happening. This is 2015, we are one half century beyond 1965, or are we?

    Following the founding Fathers

I wish to respond to the article written by Mr. Rick Howell, Obama Acts Correctly on Immigration (The Bedford Bulletin, 26 November 2014).

It's a mistake to close Thaxton Elem.

While driving through the town, I was stopped at Bedford Middle school waiting as buses departed.
I looked over at the school and parking lot area, and thought to myself, “Wow!The parking lot was packed full of children and the buses had just passed me also packed with children.”
I wondered how in the world could all these children get the proper education with an over crowded school, much less being a strain on our teachers.
