    Uncivilized behavior

Earlier last week we received an invitation from Senator Mark Warner’s office to meet him at The Olde Liberty Station Restaurant, in Bedford  on Saturday July 21.
It is not often that a sitting US Senator, not running for re-election or seeking to raise funds, visits our area to inform his constituents on what is going on in Washington D.C. However,  I could imagine that Senator Mark Warner will think twice before considering coming by again.

    No summonses issued

Regarding the letter to the editor from Dan Overstreet about officers running radar the day after the storm...
On June 30, Saturday, the Bedford Police Department issued no summonses for the entire day.Although people may see an officer sitting on the roadside or in a parking lot, they are not always running radar during those times.  They write reports in the car, as well as other paperwork, they eat in the car, for all practical purposes, they live in the car for their 12-hour shift.

    Top of the list

On May 28, there was a knock on my door to evacuate because a tanker had overturned in the S-curves of U.S. 460 in Montvale.
This was the second such accident in less than two years. This raises many concerns for the residents nearby. The number one concern is that there was a fatality in this most recent accident. Also there is concern over contamination of the water supply. Last, the detour creates an inconvenience for nearby residents and all who travel this section of the road.

    Open invitation

I would like to take this opportunity to invite Bedford City and County law enforcement to join me for a grandstand view on the Bedford Speedway.
The Speedway runs the length of Oakwood Street. You may join me at any time, night or day, in my driveway at 1709 Oakwood St.   From my view most vehicles are beginning to reach top speeds as they cross over the knoll near the City/County line.

    God is in Control theology

I believe great harm has come from the “God is in Control” theology.

    Thanks for understanding

Throughout my 40 years with the NPS, I have been grateful for the mutual support provided by staff, visitors, and community members aligned with a common interest, such as the events held to celebrate the Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th Anniversary in 2010.  As Superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I come to you now requesting your support and understanding of the reasons for the unkempt appearance of the Parkway.

    Rogues on the march

Any Bedford County citizen with a pulse knows the Rogue Majority of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors wants to return to no zoning, using lip service to “tweak the rezoning ordinance” rather than follow planning staff research embodied in the comprehensive plan the planning commission‘s resulting zoning ordinance proposed.
Now another bombshell against good zoning and planning.

    The Harmony
    meeting

I attended the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on 5/7/2012 for the rezoning of the “Harmony” project. … The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. for the consideration of a request by B&A Investors to rezone Harmony from AR to PD-1.
