  • Best Wishes For The New Year

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

As 2016 comes to a close, so too does my time serving you in the House of Representatives.  Representing all Fifth District Virginians for the last six years has been a great honor and an opportunity for which I will always be grateful.

  • Trump makes excellent cabinet picks

  • May next year be much better

For many Americans, fond memories we have about 2016 are eclipsed by the horrendous, regrettable result of the most unusual presidential election of modern times.
Hillary Clinton was undoubtedly the most qualified presidential candidate in many decades. But Donald Trump tapped into something nasty in this year’s electorate. The desire among frustrated whites for “an outsider” fueled his drive.

  • Bringing them home safely
  • Obama cements his legacy of overreach

  • The King is born

    Luke 2
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

  • I’m disappointed

        I’m very disappointed.
During the presidential campaign, quite a number of celebrities promised to leave the country if Donald Trump won the election. If you google “celebrities who promised to leave the country if Trump wins,” you will get a large number of lists from  s variety of sources. Some lists contain as many as 23 names.
The lists include Barbara Streisand, Miley Cyrus and Whoopi Goldberg. I would  be glad to wish them “good riddance.”

  • The worst Cabinet choices ever

As most Americans continue to be horrified by the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency, his selections for Cabinet positions bring to mind Hillary Clinton’s description of his supporters.
“A basket of deplorables” is what she called them, a true remark for which she took a lot of heat. It’s pretty clear that what we’re going to get for his Cabinet falls into three chilling categories: corporate billionaires; military generals; and climate change deniers.
