  • Beating the tea party in Tidewater

Politics can often be a terrific venue for the mixture of business and pleasure. If you can’t manage it in Tidewater, so close to Virginia Beach, you’ll never figure it out.
But I had no such trouble last week, working on the campaign of House of Delegates candidate Steve Heretick in Portsmouth and Norfolk.
Heretick was waging what many considered a nearly impossible task, seeking to end the career of longtime delegate Johnny Joannou in the June 9 primary.

  • A message to our graduates: It’s just the beginning
  • Money wasted

        Time is money.
For a board of supervisors that prides itself on its thriftiness, the inability to get in tune with the school board and address the construction of a new middle school in the Liberty attendance zone makes little sense.
        This issue isn’t new.
It’s been on the table for years and was a major player in the reversion agreement between the county and Bedford, prior to reverting to town status.
        So why the delay?

  • Obama slips in Greece

You would think President Barack Obama would have enough on his foreign policy plate to keep him busy — and awake at night.

  • No coronation for Hillary Clinton

Some months back it was fashionable to think that Hillary Clinton might not have even a single opponent on her way to the Democratic nomination for president.
But now, the Democratic field – while not resembling the crowded subway train in the other party – is growing.

  • Don’t be scammed!

    By Sheriff Mike Brown

As economic times get tougher for so many, there are always those who find creative ways to steal your money. Bedford County Sheriff’s Investigators have been receiving numerous reports about scams plaguing our county. Please protect yourself and your loved ones.

  • Reality vs. Reality TV

    By Mike Poff Big Island

Critics, pundits, parents, Christians and everything in-between across the nations’ media, breakfast tables, and internet enabled tablets are fumbling and stumbling all around the sad revelations regarding the Duggar family, their TV show, their influence, their faith, and their failures. All old Duggar foes sense blood in the water and swarm for the kill. Old allies rally and circle the wagons and the ruckus just rolls on and on in a modern moral bi-polar free for all.

  • Take time to vote this Tuesday

If you live in District 5, 6 or 7 you need to get out and cast a ballot in the Republican Primary this Tuesday, June 9.
In each of those districts there are contested elections for the Republican nomination, which it appears will decide who the next supervisor for those districts will be. As of this time, no Democrat or independent has expressed an interest in running against the nominees chosen in the Republican Primary.
