    Funding research

My husband, Jim was diagnosed with dementia in 2008. I watched him decline over the next several years, ultimately dying in 2011. He gradually lost his memory, his ability to think and his ability to enjoy life.

  • The House budget plan will prevent a fiscal crisis

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

For far too long, the people of Virginia’s Fifth District have been negatively impacted by Washington’s inability to live within its means.  This lack of fiscal discipline has created economic uncertainty and prevented more dynamic job growth from occurring.  It is high time we put an end to business as usual in Washington and stop spending money the federal government does not have.

  • Protecting Second Amendment rights

The United States Constitution is not a document of suggestions for how the U.S. should be governed. It’s not a “choose your own adventure” novel where you can pick which portion to follow and ignore the rest. The Constitution is the framework for our entire system of government and provides for the protection of our rights and liberties as Americans. Actions by the Executive Branch to unilaterally change our laws are in direct contradiction with the separation of powers outlined by the Constitution.

  • Honoring America’s farmers on National Ag Day March 18

    By J. Calvin Parish
    Virginia SED

For more than 40 years we have celebrated National Ag Day as a time to pause and honor the American farmer. Today, our farmers are the most productive and efficient in the world with each one helping feed more than 144 people.   We thank you, as well as everyone who plays a role in producing the food, fiber and fuel our country and the world depends upon.
This year National Ag Week is March 15 – 21 and is highlighted by National Ag Day on Wednesday, March 18.

  • Conservative zealots fighting history books

        Name just one.
I’m wondering if anyone out there could inform us all of even a single program of decent, humane reform that has ever been brought to America by conservatives?
The question arises because of recent movements in several states, most notably Oklahoma, where right-wingers are even going to court to fight modern standards in public school history books.

  • We let them get away with it

Last week I mentioned my concern that President Barack Obama’s executive overreach, aided and abetted by the “Democratic” Party, poses a threat to our republic. The Man Who Would Be King, and his political party, aren’t the only problem. The folks in Congress who have been bought and paid for by some special interest are also a serious problem.

    Bedford Museum Question

I have a concern about the relationship that Annie Pollard has with the museum and her position as a Supervisor. From what I see, Ms. Pollard pretty much runs everything day to day at that Museum and sets on the Board for the nonprofit that operates the Museum. She has been doing this for several years and I believe the City, well now the Town and County of Bedford support the Museum as a Charity. I personally like the Museum, good to have something to pull the people off of Route 460 into Town.

  • Working with Israel to prevent a nuclear Iran

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

Last Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint meeting of Congress.  It was a great honor to have Prime Minister Netanyahu come to the United States and speak to both Houses of Congress.
