  • Letter 12/14/16

    An educated idiot

Recently Rick Howell wrote an article in your paper trying to make the case that college educated people voted in waves for Hillary Clinton in the last election -- trying to make the point that uneducated Trump voters were stupid. The only thing it proves to me is that when you educate an idiot -- all you get is an educated idiot.

  • Be a Master Gardener

    By Sue Becker
    Bedford Extension Master Gardener

The recent “Growing For Holiday Centerpieces”, put on in conjunction with the Bedford Public Libraries and Bedford Extension Master Gardeners, is just the latest example of educational community outreach by Virginia Cooperative Extension Bedford Master Gardeners.

  • Did Russia ‘elect’ Donald Trump?

As the disaster of The Great Stupidity of 2016 sinks in, it’s more and more clear how the Electoral College Only victory of Donald Trump is complicated by his bizarre bromance with Vladimir Putin and Russia.
As this was written, the CIA had announced that it was clear Russia had worked covertly to influence the election in favor of Trump. The Wikileaks revelations about DNC e-mails came from Russia.

  • China has a hissy fit

Donald Trump seems to have triggered a hissing and spitting contest with China’s government by accepting a congratulatory phone call from Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan’s president.

  • A great job!

Congratulations to the Staunton River football team -- its players and coaches.
Congratulations to the Staunton River school body and staff -- who celebrated with their classmates on such a phenomenal season.
Congratulations to the Staunton River community at-large -- the many who turned out Friday morning for the send-off to Williamsburg and to the many who made their way east to Williamsburg to cheer the Golden Eagles on during Saturday’s 3A State Championship game.

  • Letter Pearl Harbor Day 2016

    Source of
    comfort

As a new resident in Bedford County, I have taken note of the significant number of young people that have lost their lives in auto accidents. As a parent that has lost a child, I would like to share a source of comfort, especially during this time of year. (My youngest son was an Iraq War veteran - a victim of PTSD)

  • Asking the right questions

This letter is in response to the article published in the November 2, 2016 edition of the Bedford Bulletin along with conversations I have had with local decision makers concerning the apparent need for an business class hotel to be built within the boundaries of the Town of Bedford. Since our reporter did not go armed with the proper questions for the individuals they quoted, I would like to ask some now.

  • The Year of Your Youth

    By Brandi Mitchell
    JF Intern

If you looked on my phone right now, you would find a playlist entitled “The Year of My Youth.” Thirty-two songs, all written about being 17. No coincidence, I am 17. And I can personally attest that this is a year unlike any other.
