  • Pay study results anticipated in advance

    By Steve Wilkerson
    Chairman
    Bedford County Board of Supervisors

It has come to my attention that there are some questions regarding the timing of the implementation of Bedford County’s pay and classification study. I wanted to take a moment to discuss the timeline of events regarding the eighteen month process that led to the adoption of a new pay plan for the County’s employees.

  • Trump conned a lot of Christians

During the election, there was a stupid sign in Bedford County along U.S. 460 East that claimed to quote Donald Trump. It read “No one reads the Bible more than I do.”
Sounds like him, doesn’t it? We know how he brags about himself. No one knows more, or does anything better, than him. But if people really believe that he’s some sort of private holy man, reading the Bible all the time, well, they’re easy to fool.

  • Let’s hope Trump can make a deal

Along with reducing tensions with Russia, Donald Trump may actually reduce tensions with China. It’s an interesting concept concerning Trump’s China bashing rhetoric during his campaign.
According to a story carried by Fox News last week, several media outlets have noted signs that Trump has become very popular on Chinese social media. It’s politically impossible to conduct an opinion poll in China, so Western media reporting on China monitor social media as a surrogate for polling.

  • Letters 11/30/16

    Give Trump a chance

In a column two weeks ago called “Liberal Agenda” the writer expressed an infatuation for Hillary Clinton that a great wave of middle-class, tax-paying voters in our democratic country did not agree with.

  • ‘Tis the Season for Holiday Scams

    By Sheriff Mike Brown
    Bedford County Sheriff’s Office

With the holidays ramping up and seasonal shopping in full swing, criminals are also gearing up for a busy season. Cyber criminals don’t take the holidays off. In fact, they’re especially busy trying to steal your money and personal information.

  • The people’s choice? That’s Clinton

As the reports of Cabinet selections, and such, are coming in, the national vote tallies go more and more toward Hillary Clinton in the popular vote for president.
As of this writing, Clinton had more than 64 million votes, with her opponent at 62 million-plus. It’s a lead of about 2 million votes, and a percentage of about 48.6 to 47.0.

  • Donald trumps Hillary on peace

Next year, after he is sworn in, I hope Donald Trump keeps his promise to put the brakes on tensions between the United States and Russia.
The only one benefiting from the current level of tension is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Barack Obama has provided him with a convenient bogeyman. With our current community organizer in chief in charge, the United States provides what Vladimir Vladimirovich’s domestic political theater needs — a foreign threat that is actually no threat at all.

  • Let it go

Some just aren’t willing to let it go.
Though Donald Trump easily won the needed votes to cruise to an Electoral College victory for president, many of the liberal elite and those within the national media are now pushing for recounts and even an overturn of the Electoral College system.
Anything to keep the pot stirred up and try to delegitimize Trump’s victory.
It’s quite a turn of events.
