  • A pending federal regulation is just one more sign of the times

The federal government just can’t help itself.

Facing tight budgets, local governments will soon be facing an additional unfunded mandate that will strain those budgets even further.
The Federal Highway Administration believes the street signs we look at every day just aren’t cutting it. And so, they will have to be changed. In some cases, at great cost.

    Support is
    tremendous

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the incredible work of the Gala committee and the extraordinary generosity of the Bedford community. On Oct. 21 Bedford Domestic Violence Services held the Purple Gala to benefit victims of domestic violence. The Gala live and silent auctions featured items donated from Bedford businesses and individuals. The generous contributions and amount of support received was tremendous.

  • Cybersecurity is critical to our national security

This week the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission issued their annual report to Congress.  The report, which details all aspects of the relationship between the United States and China, contained disturbing but not unsuspected revelations that the Chinese government is behind the numerous computer hacking incidents involving many U.S. government and military sites.

  • From the left: A Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, they’ve done it again. If you’ve been in any stores or restaurants lately, you’ve noticed that Christmas decorations have sprang up like those weird plants that floated to the Earth in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”

You can hardly find a display of a pilgrim or a turkey what with all the Santas and snowmen that are suddenly everywhere. Thanksgiving has again been dissed in a big way by the Great Commercial God we know as Christmas.

  • Keep the two-term limit for presidents

  • Shop local first

This season Centertown businesses will be staying open late as part of the Christmas holiday festivities. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: If you haven’t already shopped locally, this is a good time to start.

Buying local is more than a nice slogan.

    Unwarranted attack

There are some things a man just shouldn’t do in life, like spit in the wind or tug on Superman’s cape.
After reading Billy Hackworth’s letter to the editor attacking Sheriff Mike Brown, we can add one other thing: using the good name of Alicia Kozakiewicz to attack the great Bedford County Sheriff’s Department.
