  • A common sense response to Ebola in America

If you had never heard of Ebola before, chances are that you have now. Ebola, a serious and often fatal virus, has made its way to the United States; but that’s not a reason to panic. Ebola has been present in Africa since the 1970’s, and can only be transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person. The current outbreak in West Africa has severely affected the countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, but it is important to remember that these countries have much weaker health care and sanitation systems than those in the United States.

  • We must restore common sense to Washington

    By Congressman Robert Hurt

As I travel around Virginia’s Fifth District, I constantly hear from constituents who are astounded and upset by the manner in which the federal government operates at times.  They are often irritated by the misuse of taxpayer funds and the poor management of federal agencies.

  • Like herding rattlesnakes

So far it seems like one of the few wise foreign policy decisions President Barack Obama has made was the decision to stay out of the conflict in Ukraine, including the decision to not supply heavy weapons to the government in Kiev. As things stand now, a fragile cease fire is still holding and Russian troops are pulling back from the Ukrainian border. There also seems to be progress on an agreement on the resumption of sales of Russian natural gas to Ukraine.

  • The party of ‘no’ wants control

There’s great drama everywhere as mid-term elections come down to the wire. Even “the average voter” may just be paying attention.
The national Republican Party – intimidated by “tea party” fanatics and bitterly opposed to the president – has set its sights on control of the U.S. Senate.

  • Congress must protect Virginia’s children from Internet gambling

    By Sheriff Mike Brown
    Bedford County

My primary duty as Sheriff of Bedford County is to see that our citizens are protected. This means that I, along with my fellow law enforcement officers, must constantly be on the lookout for emerging threats.

  • Protecting your health care plan

If you like your health care plan, you can keep it. Right? Well, despite President Obama’s promises that under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, you could keep your health care plan, millions of Americans have discovered that is simply not true.

  • Despicable me

There’s more shenanigans going on at the governor’s office and this time it lands right at the feet of Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
Many Democrats enjoyed watching former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell go up in flames for his actions while in office and then doubled down accusing Republicans of luring then state Sen. Phillip P. Puckett to resign with enticements of job offers for himself and family members.

  • Barack Hussein Bush

Remember back when President George W. Bush invaded Iraq? Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction programs served as the casus belli for the invasion. It turned out that Hussein didn’t have any weapons of mass destruction programs at all. Left-wingers blamed President Bush accusing him of manufacturing an excuse to invade.
