In the Jefferson Forest team room sits a white board.  Across the top of that board the following message is scrawled:  JF girls soccer State champs.

Whether that thought proves prophetic remains to be seen.  What is clear, at this point in time, is that the Lady Cavs are poised to become the 2013 Seminole District champs.

The truth must come out

At least one top diplomatic official believes that the US military could have prevented an attack in Benghazi last Sept. 11, had fighter jets been deployed in a timely manner.
    Other reports continue to surface claiming a cover-up by the Obama Administration on Benghazi, to deflect the true nature of the attack prior to the November elections.
    Even further, some reports show a president detached from the attack on the American Embassy in which US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was killed.

Setting priorities won’t be easy

    Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Arrington told me that the supervisors plan to get an early start on next year’s budget. Arrington said that, as soon as they finish their work on revisions to the zoning ordinance, they will start discussing budget priorities. The impression I got is that they will be doing that this summer.

    To the many citizens who have been supportive of my remarks at a recent board meeting, I want to thank you.
    To the majority of Bedford County teachers, I want to repeat my statement from the same meeting which is, “I know that Bedford County has some of the best teachers in the State…” 

Donation will pay for OSHA cards

    An $1,800 corporate grant from Lowe’s will pay for Career Safe OSHA cards for students at Bedford Science and Technology Center (BSTC).

NC man faces 10 years in prison on child solicitation charges

    William Alan Brothers, 51, of Moyock, N.C., pleaded no contest last month to two charges of child solicitation, stemming from charges gathered last November through the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

There's no there, there

    It wasn't a good week for President Obama.
    First the Benghazi debacle hit the fan. Witnesses testified before Congress and the national media finally started doing its job. The result—more than ever, the affair smells of a political whitewashing at the time, and a cover-up of incompetence ever since.

Open house features historic home

    Bedford Lutheran Church will hold an open house on Sunday at its parish house of Burks Hill Road. Their parish house is an historic home that came into the congregation’s possession by accident.
    Bedford Lutheran is a new Evangelical Lutheran Church of America congregation that currently worships at the Bower Center. This works out well, while the church financially positions itself to build its own sanctuary.

The Jefferson Forest softball crew, renown for its pitching and defensive acumen, suddenly is mistreating the ball with a vengeance.

The Lady Cavs' muscle flexing seemed to peak last Friday evening as they belted an astonishing 19 hits in mauling Liberty on the Lady Minutemen home field.

The final score was as bloody as it was sobering:  11-3.

Lunch and plant sale provides needed funds

    The Blue Ridge Garden Club’s annual lunch and plant sale drew about 150 people to Main Street United Methodist Church as the month of April closed out.
