Thaxton man sentenced on child...

    A Thaxton man pleaded guilty to 11 counts of possessing child pornography, following a tip authorities received from the parents of a boy who were in some of the photos the man had.
    Police arrested Joshua Earl Grimstead, 23, on Dec. 28 of last year following a case investigated by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Bedford Health Foundation has...

    Denny Huff, who joined the Bedford Community Health Foundation as its new executive director on April 8, has spent the last 20 years — the entire time since graduating from college — working for non-profit organizations.

    Huff has a bachelor’s degree in history and he originally intended to teach history and political science. However, the first opportunity that opened up for him after graduation was with a non-profit organization. He took it, loved it and made non-profit organizations his career.

The truth must come out

At least one top diplomatic official believes that the US military could have prevented an attack in Benghazi last Sept. 11, had fighter jets been deployed in a timely manner.
    Other reports continue to surface claiming a cover-up by the Obama Administration on Benghazi, to deflect the true nature of the attack prior to the November elections.
    Even further, some reports show a president detached from the attack on the American Embassy in which US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was killed.

    Supervisor Annie Pollard has again offered further justification in her attempt to “set the record straight.”

Donation will pay for OSHA cards

    An $1,800 corporate grant from Lowe’s will pay for Career Safe OSHA cards for students at Bedford Science and Technology Center (BSTC).

LTP helps out with Cop Camp

    Little Town Players (LTP)  normally runs a theater day camp each summer. This year, according to Karen C. Hopkins, they aren’t able to do it, so they are assisting the Bedford Police Department with Cop Camp. The theater group made a donation of $500 to help the effort.

Open house features historic home

    Bedford Lutheran Church will hold an open house on Sunday at its parish house of Burks Hill Road. Their parish house is an historic home that came into the congregation’s possession by accident.
    Bedford Lutheran is a new Evangelical Lutheran Church of America congregation that currently worships at the Bower Center. This works out well, while the church financially positions itself to build its own sanctuary.

There's no there, there

    It wasn't a good week for President Obama.
    First the Benghazi debacle hit the fan. Witnesses testified before Congress and the national media finally started doing its job. The result—more than ever, the affair smells of a political whitewashing at the time, and a cover-up of incompetence ever since.

Veterans wives help, encourage...

    A group of wives of Vietnam veterans started meeting at a restaurant in Lynchburg two-and-a-half years ago. Most of these women are caring for disabled husbands and the began meeting as a support group. Most of the husbands are combat veterans.

    “We are there to encourage one another,” said Judy Doering, who coordinates the group.
    The group grew and now meets at Lynchburg’s American Legion Post 16 on the fourth Thursday of each month.
