  • Wounded Warrior Softball team coming to Bedford
    The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team will make its way to Bedford on Saturday April 28 for a doubleheader.      Bedford will be the final leg to the team’s tour of Virginia. Starting in Manassas, VA on April 21 the team will go city-to-city until they reach Bedford.      The team is made up of veterans and active duty soliders from all U.S. Military service branches, who have endured injuries that have led to amputation.     
  • Bowyer wins at Martinsville
    Starting in the ninth spot Clint Bowyer of Stewart-Haas Racing (Ford) had some ground to make up to come out victorious at Martinsville. Slowly but surely that is what he did, moving up during each stage. Weather pushed the race back a day to Monday March 26.      “This is a place where I’ve gotten so close,” Bowyer said. “I wanted to win this grandfather clock (trophy) so bad. I got so close back in 2012.”   
  • Avery Dolan of Lynchburg Advances to Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals
    Chicago—Over the past nine months, tens of thousands of young athletes from across the country have stepped up to the line to show off their free throw skills through the Elks Hoop Shoot. Only six will become National Champions.      Avery Dolan is one of 72 of the nation’s best free throw shooters ages 8 to 13. Avery’s hard work and dedication have taken her from Lynchburg to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals in Chicago.     
  • Sports Day-ly: Support Local Hoops
    We are officially on the homestretch of the regular season portion of this year’s basketball season. The recent snow days have impacted the scheduling to the point that some teams might have some pretty packed weeks going forward.      So far this season has been an absolute joy to watch. I would like to take this time to encourage fans, students and faculty alike to experience that joy by going and watching the Bedford County teams play.     
  • Liberty inducts 2018 Hall of Fame class
    Between the girls varsity game against Jefferson Forest and the boys varsity game against Jefferson Forest the Liberty Minutemen honored the 2018 Hall of Fame Class.      The class consisted of seven former athletes, contributors and athletic staff. Ray Jermaine Brawley, Megan Camden-Fox, Maria “Chris” Hensley-Griffin, Gary Mitchell Lowry, Michael David Young, Steve Kemper Boyer and Ivan Lewis “Chappy” Merritt.

The water temperature is dropping and will continue to make the fishing better! Fishing overall has been good this past month! Water temperature will be in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s. Best times will be early morning, late afternoon and cloudy days. Striper fishing will pick up soon!

  • Sports Day-ly: Handling Sports Heartbreak
    Heartbreak and sports seem to go hand in hand. If you truly find yourself invested into a particular sports team at some point or another that team will make you want to rip your hair out.      As a guy who grew up outside of Washington D.C. and has been a faithful D.C. sports fan I know heartbreak. In fact, I probably know way too much for someone who has yet to celebrate his 23rd birthday.
