  • Photo of the week: by Haley Fredericks
This week's Photo of the Week was provided by Haley Fredericks.  "It was taken in my Mom's garden on a daisy stem.  It is a Planthopper Nymphs from the Acanaloniidae family.  They are really small, and whenever you touch them, they hop away.  The strands of fuzz might provide protection from predators:  It could be a trick, having the predators attack the wrong part of the insect-the wax breaks off, while the insect jumps to safety."

  • Midnight for Cinderella
By Mike Forster sports@bedfordbulletin.com   History is replete with underdogs.  And Americans (who, by the way, had their nation founded by a bunch of them) love underdogs. So, along with all those who faced long odds and earned our admiration, you can include the American Legion Post 217 baseball team.
  • New life for Big Island Post 217
The dead walk among us! But, fear not.  There's no need to call out the CDC or the Zombie Response Unit. In this case, it's Big Island Post 217's American Legion senior baseball team playing the role of the walking undead. When last we left the Islanders, they were dealing with the fact they'd been eliminated in the District 10 playoffs, a 21-16 loss to Lynchburg Post 16. Lynchburg advanced to the finals, where it was topped by Danville.
