  • Staunton River's Offense Explodes

    Ordinarily, scoring 47 points in a playoff game should be enough to walk away with a victory. The Northside Vikings learned that playing Staunton River is far from ordinary. The Golden Eagles put up a jaw dropping 72 points in a 72-47 victory over Northside.
     

    In the first quarter Staunton River did what they do best, run the football. With, statistically, the best runner in VHSL history in their backfield they had good reason to do so.

  • Ospreys Open Season With Win; Get New Uniforms

    The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team had quite an opening day last Tuesday, Nov. 14.
        

    The Ospreys players started the day receiving brand new uniforms—a surprise to them—and then went out and defeated New Covenant 60-50.
      

    The uniforms were won in a contest that 323 Sports hosted.

  • Jefferson Forest's Volleyball Season Comes to a Close

    The Jefferson Forest Cavaliers faced their biggest test yet when they took on the Blacksburg Bruins, literally. The Bruins had a number of players standing over six feet tall and two future NCAA Division I players.
     

    In the end the Bruins were too much to handle and took the Cavaliers down 3-1.

  • The Bruins Prove too Much to Handle for the Cavaliers

    It had been over 27 years since the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers and Blacksburg Bruins had met face to face on the gridiron. On Nov. 10 they snapped that streak meeting in the first round of the Group 4A VHSL playoffs–a game that was far less climatic than the Cavaliers were hoping for.
     

    Blacksburg scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and cruised to a 54-6 victory over the Cavaliers, ending Jefferson Forest's season.

  • Heritage Ends Liberty's Season

    The Liberty Minutemen found themselves on the wrong side of another fantastic performance from the Heritage Pioneers and running back Elijah Davis.
     

    Fog covered the field before the players came onto the field. Once the game started the fielded resembled the graveyard scene from "Remember the Titans" only instead of gravestones there was players.
     

    Heritage put their full offensive talent on display in a crushing 69-7 victory over Liberty, ending the Minutemen's season.

  • Golden Eagles Soar Past Cave Spring

    The cold did not stop the Staunton River Golden Eagles from soaring high over the Cave Spring Knights. The Golden Eagles scored 48 points in the first half en route to a 56-21 victory.
     

    T.J. Tester made the first mark on the scoreboard with a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown. Kalip Jones was next to find the end zone on a 2-yard run making the score 12-0. Tester scored the next two touchdowns on a 10-yard run and a 29-yard run. Tester finished with four touchdowns on the night, three offensive and one defensive.

  • Liberty can't hang on

    Liberty's mission was simple, finish the season with a win and guarantee a spot in the playoffs. The Minutemen had to go through the Rustburg Red Devils to accomplish that task.
     

    While Liberty was unable to come out victorious, falling 25-20, the Minutemen's season will be continuing with a berth in the Region 3C playoffs.
     

    On the first play from scrimmage Rustburg managed to jar the ball loose from the Minutemen. The Red Devils picked up the ball and took it in for a touchdown to go up 6-0.

  • Perfection Obtained

    Staunton River achieved one of its preseason goals–perfection. With a 60-13 beat down of the Patrick Henry Patriots the Golden Eagles are now a perfect 10-0 heading into the Region 3D playoffs.
     

    This is the first time in school history that the Golden Eagles have finished 10-0 in the regular season.
     

    "I thought this was the most complete game we've played this season," Head Coach Chuck Poston said. "We were clicking on offense, defense and special teams."

  • Jefferson Forest falls short in shootout with Heritage

    In the final game of the season it would have been easy for the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers (5-4) to roll over and lay down for the Heritage Pioneers (8-1). Considering the Cavaliers have eight two-way starters with season ending injuries and that Heritage's Elijah Davis plays football like its a video game, expectations may not have been very high for the Cavaliers.

  • Cavaliers Crush Rustburg

    Jefferson Forest found itself back in the win column following a 56-20 win over the Rustburg Red Devils.

    The score was impressive for the Cavaliers considering the team is missing eight  two-way starters with three out of their four starting running backs out with injury. Perhaps more impressive is that the team piled up over 600 yards rushing despite all of those injuries.

    Three Cavaliers players finished with over 100 yards on the ground. Senior running back Hunter Millner led the team with 192 yards on 12 carries.
