  • Seminole District Wrestling Championships

    The Liberty Minutemen and Jefferson Forest Cavaliers traveled to Amherst County High School to take part in the Seminole District Championships.
        

    The tournament was split into two sections for Regional selection purposes. Liberty competed in the 3A portion of the matches and Jefferson Forest in the 4A section.
        

    The Minutemen finished second in the 3A section with 131 points and the Cavaliers finished third in the 4A with 28 points.
        

  • Milestones and winstreaks highlight the Ospreys’ week

    It has been over two weeks since the Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys have lost a game.
      

    The team extended its winning streak to eight games with wins over Christian Heritage Academy (86-67), Parkway Christian Academy (67-60) and Temple Christian (76-39). The Ospreys (18-8, 6-4) are now in a tie for seventh place in the VACA with less than a week remaining in regular season play.
        

  • Liberty to play JF in Seminole District Tournament

    The Liberty Minutemen picked up a big district win Tuesday Jan. 30 against Brookville. The Minutemen traveled into the Bees’ nest and walked out with a 56-32 win.
        

    The final two games did not offer as sweet of a result. Due to past snow days Liberty hosted Rustburg on Friday Feb. 2 then traveled to play the Red Devils on Monday Feb. 5.
        

    The first battle came down to the wire with the Red Devils stealing a 47-45 win right out of the hands of Liberty.
        

  • Golden Eagles fall to Terriers

    Staunton River’s final Blue Ridge District game of the season came against one of their greatest rivals as William Byrd paid a visit on Friday Feb. 3.
        

    Fans in attendance were treated to a game that featured an offensive explosion in the fourth quarter. Both teams combined to score 50 points in the final eight minutes of play.

    The atmosphere of Jefferson Forest’s game at Liberty Christian Academy on Thursday Feb. 2 felt like a playoff game.
        

    A massive crowd was in attendance with both sides equally represented and at times it was loud enough to drown out thoughts from your head.
        

  • Region 3D Track & Field

    The Staunton River track and field team traveled to nearby Liberty University for the Region 3D Track & Field Championships.
        

    Rachel Maslen scored the first points of the day for the Lady Golden Eagles. Maslen placed fifth in the 500 Meter Dash to score two points. Bree Heft was next to score for Staunton River. Heft jumped 31-00.00 in the Triple Jump, nearly a foot further than her seeded distance.
        

  • Sports Day-ly: Winner take all

    District tournament play has officially come to a close meaning that the win-or-go-home mentality is truly starting to sink in for the teams that are still alive in the basketball post season.
        

  • JF girls to host LCA in first round

    The Lady Cavaliers of Jefferson Forest will host a first round playoff game in the Seminole District Tournament.
        

    Jefferson Forest finished fourth in the district and will host the Liberty Christian Academy Bulldogs on Wednesday Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
        

    The two teams met twice this season and split one game each.
        

  • Cavaliers just keep winning

    The Jefferson Forest Cavaliers are the hottest team in the Seminole District. The team is undefeated in 2018 and held a seven-game win streak stretching back to late December. Jefferson Forest looked to make it eight straight with Seminole District rival Heritage in town and nine straight the following night against Brookville for Senior Night.
        

  • Liberty delivers payback

    The last time the Lady Minutemen of Liberty squared off against the Lady Pioneers of Heritage the Lady Minutemen found themselves on the wrong side of a nearly 30-point score difference. Eleven days later Liberty had a chance for redemption.
      

    More than just redemption was on the line on Friday Jan. 26 when Liberty hosted Heritage. This was a chance for Liberty to move up in the Seminole District standings.
