If nothing else, the Staunton River girls soccer team proved that it can put on a heck of a show even without some of its marquee players.
Staunton River got around to picking up its first baseball win of the season.
When play started in last Monday night’s match against Liberty, Jefferson Forest’s record against the Minutemen stood at 41-9-2.
It used to be, girls soccer was fairly predictable. Lord Botetourt and Staunton River were dominant. As were Jefferson Forest, Glass and Liberty.
He was hot all night. Then, when he most needed to be, he was one cool customer.
After the first 10 Jefferson Forest batsmen were struck out on Friday night, there was one gigantic question looming: Uh, these are the defending Seminole champs?
Turn down any invitations to tea. Spurn their offers of a dinner party. You won’t feel welcome.
For one girl, it was every player’s dream come true.
