  • Liberty girls defeat Glass

        The Liberty volleyball team shutout E.C. Glass 3-0 on Tuesday, October 11 in a Seminole District rematch.
        The win gave the Lady Minutemen their third victory in a row.
        Liberty came out strong in the first set winning 25-18. Glass battled in the second but fell short as the Lady Minutemen took a 25-21 victory.
        LHS put it away in the third set winning 25-10.

    Liberty travels to Brookville

        The Liberty football team will be traveling to Brookville this Friday for a district matchup against the Bees.
        “We are just trying to get the things we have spent a ton of time working on to show improvement in those areas,” said Coach Chris Watts. “The last game we just couldn’t get a snap from center.”

        After a huge win over Northside on Monday, Oct. 10 Staunton River kept its foot on the gas shutting out Alleghany 47-0 Friday.
        That’s an accumulated total of 106-21 for the week. Not a bad five days of work.

  • Forest falls to Amherst

        Mistakes on the field led to a loss for the Jefferson Forest football team last Friday. Amherst capitalized on the mistakes and won 34-22.
        “We dug a hole for ourselves right at the beginning of the game,” said Coach Bob Christmas. “We dropped a touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage and failed to score on that drive.”

        Staunton River volleyball fell to Northside and Alleghany this past week.
        The Lady Golden Eagles fell to Alleghany 3-1.
        The Lady Mountaineers took the first two sets 25-20. The Lady Golden Eagles fought in the third after two close sets and finished 25-16 winning the third. Alleghany then took the fourth 25-23, a two point set to win the match.

  • River’s offense overpowers Fleming

        The Staunton River offense started off slowly last Friday but was still able to eventually overpower the William Fleming defense. The Golden Eagles cruised to a 47-7 victory over the Colonels.
        “We are tickled to death to get the win and get to 5-0,” said Coach Chuck Poston. “It wasn’t perfect but I am really proud of the way our kids played. We were a little sluggish offensively to start out.”

        Crucial mistakes cost Liberty against Rustburg last Friday and the Minutemen fell 34-20.
        “We played better,” said Coach Chris Watts. “We still made some mistakes at the worst possible time to kind of put ourselves in a bad situation.”
        Rustburg started off the game with a 60-yard rushing touchdown. Liberty answered with a Brock Porter 3-yard touchdown. PAT was no good.

  • Forest wins Skyline Invitational

        Jefferson Forest competed in the Skyline Invitational last Wednesday and defeated 15 competing teams.
        Forest scored a 294 on the 18-hole invitational. The second place team Loudon Valley scored  307.
        Isaac Simmons placed second with a score of 69, Garnet Manley III finished with 73, Zach Abbott finished with 74,and Nick Willis finished with 78.
